I have 69k on them and took my car for inspection today and found out 3 out of 4 have broken coils.. So pissed right now.. It's passed their 2 year warranty and they are atleast giving them to me for $200 shipped but with the install of $225 it makes it a expensive quality issue...!!! PISSED..

 

i have never heard of springs breaking!!!!????

and i thought comptech has a lifetime warranty?!?!?!

He said they were cleaning them up so pieces wouldn't break off and go into my tires..

I know.. Only good spring is front drivers side.. I've only seen 1 other thread about broken springs before on here in my time.. Only off-roading are Pittsburgh potholes....

 

I seem to remember only one other post like this about broken CT springs.

Jonesi - Just curious, what shocks have you been running with and are the springs installed on a different perch other than the stock setup? In other words, is your car lower than the normal CT drop?

 

After just putting on headers/bpipe/mufflers I'd say for 69k it's got alot of rust... I would've imagined my stock shocks going first..

 

Nope just stockies for shocks.. Installed by Certified Acura dealer..

 

so damn comptech has some quality issues

maybe i should check my comptech springs too.

Before the inspection, did you notice any sounds, ride quality and/or handling issues?

 

and it was recent, someone from ny or nj.



the only thing i can think of is that teh rust is effecting them.

Yes a slight noise from passenger side.. But I assumed it was my shocks slowly going.. Of course the only good one is on my front drivers side so I didn't hear much..

 

Not yet.. But I will...!!

 

But I'd advise all just to keep a eye on them just in case..

I'm taking my CT springs off on Wednesday and replacing them with H&R OE Sports. I'm selling the CT because I don't like the rake they produced. If you're interested shoot me an email. They only have 8K miles on them.

I told them to save the pieces of the broken springs so I'll show you some pics of broken pieces first..

 

The worst part is my ride height is the same no difference and no alignment or any other signs..

 

This install, with probably new shocks and springs will cost me over a grand...

Are you content with the CT drop or are you planning on swapping in a new brand?

If you need a set of stock springs i still have mine.

Ok, here's the broken pieces off the springs.. Looks like rust may have been a small factor..

Damn, those are nasty. Those pieces of the spring look like they came from under the sea.

 

On top of that they are extremely frail and fragile.. I don't even want to take a wheel off and look.. I'm just going to get it fixed and take pictures afterwards..

Car is sitting til the ones come in from Comptech.. I have the factory but I'm not going to spend $200 to put those on and $200 to put the Comptechs back on..

 

Wow they look like hell. Mine are a little dirty but still look like the day they came out of the box. Still silver as well.

Maybe you should go with coilovers? I thought about swapping out my tokico HP's for a set of Koni yellows but then decided that if I'm going to go through all that trouble .. I think I would be going TEIN.

 

Stainless steel components should help.

 

I'm gonna drop Piglet soon, and I'm definitely doin' coilovers. I still have my original suspension (110k), so the shocks would probably burst after a week of new springs, anyway. It won't cost much more to do coilivers at that point.
