Cross Drilled Rotors

I know Tim sells them on his site and want them really bad. but can't decide if I want the black cross drilled rotors and paint my calipers red or just get the silver cross drilled rotors and leave my calipers alone or paint them red or black.

another question is how come the rear rotors are more expensive than the front when there smaller??

My guess is that the rears cost more because they have the integrated drum style parking break, no?

he has gold, black and silver, Gas slotted and cross drilled. But i remember someone who got the gold said the gold wore off w/ in a couple days. So im thinking probably the same for the black.

Would black calipers or red calipers look good w/ cross drilled rotors on a white type s? I also have the small comptech sticker that comes w/ the comptech parts on my rear passenger side.

The cross drilled rotors are around 300.

FYI tim also stocks acura parts. (new cup holder, matts and other goodies like ahmotor

The rear rotor "core" cost is more expensive prior to the drilling process. The rotors pictured appear to have too many drill holes, probably prone to crack too soon. Be careful with these.

MchtypeS has them and I wasn't too happy with them on close inspection.

Regardless of color, all the annodized material in the pad swept area is going to be removed.

On the rear rotors, make sure you chamfer the pad edge in both directions of sweep to prevent pad destruction.

Thank you very much for the responce, guess I'll just get the front rotors, and get the silver ones.

also what do u mean by 'chamfer the pad edge in both directions'?

I've been told the following:

The cad plating wears away in time.

I would stick with the slotted rotors -- I did see them and they looked ok.

Cross drilled rotors really need good air flow to work well. Planning on installing air ducts? If not, they may actually hurt the brake fade (but do look cool).

You can take a file and put a slight bevel on the pad's leading and trailing edge. Do be careful, a lot of the brake pads have asbestos, so get a 3M fine particle mask when doing this. Better yet, ask a competent mechanic to do this for you.

It is possible to make a relatively good cross-drilled rotor, but the really good ones will get drilled very carefully and will have chamfered holes. They will also get some heat treating before cad plating to relieve any stresses in the rotor. Most of them will crack with time.

Would the rear rotors be more expensive since the inside surface of the rotor hat is also a precision-finished surface because the e-brake is a "drum-in-disc" unit?

Just a thought...

why dont you just wait for the comptechs?

they will be about 250 - 300 for a pair

whats the point of buying STOCK rotors? theyll still warp over time. youll probably have even more problems with them

im sure the comptechs will have thicker walls to prevent warping

yea, they are simply stock rotors that get drilled or sloted and then plated.
