Hey, dude...while checking out the cool pix of your new HIDs I noticed you have the Comptech quiet tip inserts listed in your sig.

What can you tell me about them? I'm curious as to what they look like installed, and how much difference they made in the overall sound.

I have had a pair on back-order from Comptech for most of this month...I should get them within a few days or so. I'm hoping they can silence some of the ~2,000 RMP steady-speed droning noise that is sometimes annoying.

 

well sir... mine are ALSO on backorder. I just felt like putting them in my sig. So if i get mine before you.. then i will let ya know.

Whoever gets them first, please post your thoughts on look and sound. I'm also interested.

 

So let me understand this.
First you pay 600+ to replace perfectly good mufflers that add a whopping 3-4 Horsepower and louder sound.

Then you order tips to “quiet” them because of the annoying sound.
What am I missing here?

Some people buy Comptechs just for looks (no more nasty black mufflers). For me, the horsepower gain is neglibile and even the Comptech's are a little loud for me. However, I hate the look of the stock exhausts. If I had the money I would get them.

 

So shawn.. how much did you lose out on trading your 2001 CLS for the 2003?

Like a later poster noted, I bought them mainly for the looks. I'm not terribly disturbed by the overall sound, just at times the steady-2,200 RPM droning is slightly annoying.

You're right that the stock mufflers are perfectly good...but they are extremely FUGLY.
