Cracking Leather...Anyone have this problem?

The leather on the drivers side is cracking like no other...

i noticed it once before but didn't realize how bad it was till today.

has anyone else have the same problem?

i was wondering if the seats were under warrenty as well.

yes they should b covered...do u like sit right on the bolster??? i've found that if i position myself favoring the right side of the seat instead of the left side, i minimize the folding/rippling effects...that and a crapload of Zaino Leather in a Bottle

here's a shot of my driver's seat after Zaino'ing...look at how the side bolster still has some ripples...these seats are about 2 years old, and i started using Zaino on the seats last month..the Zaino helps a lot...much more noticeable than Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner IMO

That's strange.

Did you use any kind of conditioner on the leather?

I haven't had any trouble and mines real old (March 2000) but I've put conditioner (meguire's) from day 1.

I'm also careful to move around the bolster when I get in and out of the car.

I remember seeing a post not too long ago where someone got their's fixed under warranty...

Everything in the car except the tires is covered under warranty...get it into your shop, you'll get nice new seatbacks!!!

My car is 2 years old and I don't have that problem either, but I condition and am careful about not dragging across the seat when I get in and out. Don't take this the wrong way, but are you a "heavy" person (above 250 lbs)? If you are there is just no way to get around the extra stress on the leather even if you do condition. Remember, this car was designed by the japs who are traditionally smaller people. Marysville, Ohio not withstanding! I doubt you'll see many sumo wrestlers driving this car.

I've got a few as well. I would have thought it WOULDN'T be covered under warranty since it looks more like a wear n' tear type of problem. Maybe one of the times I visit the dealer (haven't yeat, knock on wood), I'll bring it up.

They'll really replace the seat for something like this???

What the fuck is on your seats? You need to stop using that getto ass whatever that is on there and use a real leather conditioner that wont eat up the leater.

yeah, that pic doesnt look right, that shit is waaay to shiny, whatever chemicals you use on the seats must be causing the cracking, do you like that glossy look??? ive got 5,000 miles on my car and i NEVER put anything on the seats and they still look pretty new with some minor creasing....i would never want that shiny, glossy look on my seats, i dont think i will ever condition them, i hate that look....if they crack, ill get them, fixed by acura

correction...

i don't think i'm a REALLY heavy person...slightly over weight for my height but 170lbs really isn't that bad.

and i've been using zymol...leather cleaner and conditioner not lexol...like i mentioned in my previous post - my mistake

uh....as far as the seats looking shiney...beats the hell outta me as well...it's actually only that specific area that's shiney and i think it's due to the rubbing that has occurred over time.

and no i personally don't like the glossy look myself.

i'm gonna stop by the dealer ship asap...i'll keep you guys updated on the situation.

relax boss

that's what the seats look like right after applying Zaino Leather in a Bottle...when it dries, it gets more dull and natural looking...i thought it was an awesome time to get a nice shiny pic of the leather since leather doesn't shine like that

They would not replace the whole seat. They ordered the piece of leather that needed to be replaced and sent the seat to a shop to have it replaced.
I tried to get a new seat at the time the back kept falling off. The seat kept squeaking and they were on the 4th attempt to fix it. They would only fix that one piece of leather. I had to fix the squeak myself.

damn looks like I dont use enough to get that kind of LUSTER.
But mine is Parchment leather so it wouldn't look like Carbon Fiber afterwards, but BUTTER.

I have enough of the Leather In a Bottle to use some on my boots too! Works well surprisingly . I use LIB very sparingly

sorry it's taken me like a month to respond to this...guess i just missed it...

"Leather in a Bottle" is the name of the Zaino leather cleaner and conditioner...Z10 i think...works on vinyl also...also does plastic, so basically, i now do the entire interior (seats, dash, steering wheel, doors, etc.) with this, and it's great...makes the interior look original again

I am experienceing the same thing on my driver's seat. When I took the car in to Acura for some service, the service manager noticed it and said that he would order me a new seat.

I also thought that it WOULDN"T be covered, because of wear and tear. Take you car in and tell them that its normal for the leather to crease, but not to crack or peel off.

I've noticed the same thing happening to my car on the driver's seat. But, then again it is a bit older than you 2nd gens. I had the same question, how do you fix that and how much $$$?
