Cracked Intake!

has anyone ever had a problem with the aem intake cracking on the bend??? mine did, and i don't know if it's because i tightened it too much or too much heat or what? nothing a little glue and tape can't fix but it's still ghetto looking. 1 day before the meet, how nice is that? anyway, anybody ever had a problem?

Mine's broke at the little piece that comes off of the intake. Everyone's at the last 2 meets I have been to, were broke also, so I didn't feel so bad
You can see mine tomorrow.....

damn dude...

today a buddy was askin me to see my intake, so i popped the hood, and looked down @ my intake and noticed from the bypass down it had fallen off, luckily the shop that installed it left the wheel well intact so it hasnt fallen out... :wtf: i dont even know how long its been like that for...

try AEM and see if they'll replace it for you. if they will... cool.

if not see if you can find a welding shop that welds aluminum. it won't look the best but it's safer than RTV sealer or the "form-a-gasket" crap.

good luck.

Bypass valve

Screw the bypass valve.

Unless you're using the CL as a Canoe.....

I've owned (own) 5 Honda/Acuras with full CAIs on them - and no bypass valve. Hundreds of thousands of miles....no puddles in the engine.

Especially if your splash shields are in tact - save yourself the trouble.

thank you guys for the support. i wrapped the 'elbow' in white duct tape then covered it up with some blue tape to match. so there is actually like 1 inch of insulation. funny, i felt it not pulling as hard as it used to, that was my first give away...but it's all back to normal and it doesn't look that bad. yeah it didn't break where it attaches or anything, it broke on the bend, you know that first turn the intake makes after it leaves the tb? anyway, maybe i can call aem, that's a good idea. thanks. c ya in austin choppa, i'm leaving right.....meow!

This is for those looking at this thread who's deciding on what intake to get...

For the record...I haven't seen a single quality control issue with the Injen intakes.

well i decided that it was a faulty install on my part. one of my engine mounts is broken so the engine travels north/south a lot more when under a lot of acceleration...i tightened the intake too much at the bracket forcing it to crack when twisted. oh well, i got a nice little duct/electrical tape fix on it and it seems to work. god knows there is no air going through 4 layers of duct tape. looks ugly but at least it's not as bad as sidemarkers home depot mod....just kidding man.

the aem is notorious for the crack. I went with the injen, no cracks, louder down low and up high and just all around better quality.
