A couple of CLS questions

I just got my car this weekend and after reading a few posts, I have a couple of questions.

First, when is the VSA on/off? When the triangle is on, does that mean that it's on? Or is it just trying to warn you that it's NOT on? I usually drive it without the triangle on, does that mean that it's off?

Second, which mods void the warranty? I extended my warranty to 7 year 95K miles and I don't wanna void it after just paying for it. Will a CAI or header void my warranty?

Thanx

when the triangle is lit up, vsa is off.

as far as warranty goes, i think every acura dealer is different. some places will install and warranty comptech products, and some wont.

but most of any aftermarket products will affect the warranty.

p.s. what part of illinois are u from

I live in the naperville area.

So even a CAI will affect the warranty?

your not too far from my work. i work out in westmont, and bought my CL at mcgrath.

it all depends on the dealer and which type of CAI. some acura dealers will warranty comptech parts and some dealers wont. i know that mcgrath will not warranty comptech stuff. at least thats what i was told when i got the icebox installed.

the injen or aem will def void warranty, no questions asked. by rule, anything aftermarket added to the car that the dealership isnt sponsored though, or sell anything by, will void warranty.

Man, we need to sticky this or something. Here is an overview of warranty:

The ONLY way that a warranty claim will be denied is if the aftermarket part has caused the failure. For instance, if you had a CAI, and your CD player stops working, there is no way that they can void your warranty-the CAI didn't do anything to the radio. Now, if you had a 200 shot Nitrous system, and you blew your head gasket, there is a good chance that the warranty claim will be denied due to the fact that the extra power that the N2O caused likely caused the gasket to go.
So, in a nutshell:aftermarket stuff will NOT void your overall warranty. The only way a warranty claim will be denied is if the aftermarket part caused the failure!!!!

99.9% of the time the CAI will not afect your warranty. The only way that I can see a warranty claim denied due to having a CAI is if you had the bypass valve and the valve broke causing damage to the engine or intake manifold or the like.

thats what i meant, i should have been more clear. unless ur stupid enough to believe that ur cai will void your factory radio warranty.

i remember a while back, my buddy brought in his car cause one of his stock headlights went out. well the dealer told him they couldnt change it under warranty because he had aftermarket exhaust. i know it sounds ridiculous, but they were serious. they told my buddy the exhaust cause the headlight to go out.

dont ask me

It's funny, I don't know why dealers do things like that. I mean, they get paid just the same if the did the warranty work. Just goes to show you that some dealerships are just plain schmucks.
UNCTYPE-S-I thought that that was what you meant-just making it clearer. But, you would be surprised what people will believe!

As said depends on the dealer. My dealer wouldn't peform the TSB on the warping rotors cause my car was lowered & had different rims. So that gave them an excuse to not honor the warranty. Yet other dealers like PIAA have no problem. So the dealer can refuse to work on you car.(like they do with mine) You then have to go through Acura, & then if that doesn't work you need to go to court cause the dealer or Acura has to PROVE that mod caused the fault. 99% of the time it's just not worth the trouble.
Lucky for us the CLS doesn't need many dealer trips.

Wrong! Dealerships get paid less when they do warrenty work. They can charge you whatever they want for non-warrenty work but ACURA tells them what they can charge back for warrenty work which isn't much

Yeah, I know that the rates are different-what i meant to say is that the dealership still gets paid and makes money.

ok, so if you could get paid $25/hour vs $5/hour for the same work, which would you prefer.

We even have a link to SEMA's site on our page explaining all of this.

Anyway, you can't keep a car stock... it's not the ACL way

of course everyone would go for the 25, however, most people will not go to the dealer to get work done unless they have a valid warranty-that is why I say that-at least, most of the poepl I know wouldn't go to the dealer for work they have to pay for-they are not worth it!! Better off just finding a good trustworthy mechanic to do your work-that is, if you can find one
