Cost a 2003 6mt CL type S?

I am thinking about purchasing a 2003 6 speed CL type S with 82k miles on it. The asking price is 12100. Is this a good price? Assuming the car is in good condition? I have not seen it yet.

What price should i shoot for?

Anything to check when I am test driving it tommorow?

I appreciate all your wisdom and advice.

im shopping for one too... run the VIN for sure. the price is pretty low, but with that many miles from a private-party, its not unheard of. most of the prices i see are 16k to 20k from dealers and 13-17k at auto auction. if you need a carfax run... pm me the vin and ill check it for ya. GL

I checked it already, and it checked out just fine. Mine was not a carfax though, so I'll give you the vin anyways

That sounds about right, maybe a little low, but if it's got a clean carfax, it's a good deal IMHO.

on its way... seems like a good deal... im looking for lower miles, but damn... cant complain about that price. see how it drives and if it feels like its all good... get it. also, most cities have places that will 100point inspect cars for you... its like 99 bucks but imho not a bad deal when your plunking 12k on a car that could have been raced to shit and back and you wouldnt otherwise know.

Here's a link to Cute PDF. It's a free program to create PDF's. There are two applications that you'll install. After you're done, you can create the report as a PDF by printing it and sending it to the Cute PDF printer. It works pretty good if you don't have a version of Adobe Acrobat (not Reader)

Guys, I looked at the car, and of course there is something wrong with the car. Thats why its so cheap. 3rd gear is grinding. I am guessing this is just a syncro, but eventually the tranny will need to be rebuilt. How much does this cost? Has anyone gotten this done?

Also, the owner never did a 60,000 mile maintenance.

yeah keep looking.. If there is one thing wrong with the car then many other things can be wrong with it also. I bought my six speed from the dealer. It was certified and I bought the extended protection. It came out to be about 20000 with 50000 miles on it

Jim had some gears replaced (along with alot of other stuff). See post #6:

Oh, and I just remembered... our "official" cheap 6spd thread is here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=cheap+6spd

Ok... that's 2 searches in one post, you're going to have to learn how to use the search engine by yourself now

Def been drivin hard or by a newby. Might just need new fluid though if its never been done (its rec'd every 30k). i say make them put new fluid in it and see if it still grinds, and then lowball them to $10k. If it smooths it out alot it'll be a good deal, as long as there is nothing else wrong.

Or offer $12k and make them put in a new clutch & tranny.

edit: btw I'm asking 17k for mine, 50k miles, 7yr 100k mile, all service records, mint condition.

The guy was apparantly told by a tranny shop that they would replace the syncro in 3rd gear for only 800 bucks. If this is true, I am picking up the car for 10,900. Otherwise, I will keep lowballing him as much as I can.

Nice to have a low price, but to me it seems like he really drove it hard. I would be a bit careful. There is no way to know what else may be messed up.

Jim said it was $750 in the post I linked above, so $800 is in the ballpark...

Based on the wording of the post, I believe that was parts alone. I got a quote of about $2000, for a full rebuild of everything. Otherwise i was told it could be as cheap as $600 for just a 3rd gear syncro.

I would say it's cheap, but I'm not sure it's a good deal. It's been a bit neglected and abused.

That feature is more related to having Adobe Acrobat loaded on your machine rebgardless of PC vs. MAC.

I've got a PC at home with the full version of Acrobat (not just reader) so I can print to pdf...

Doesn't matter what the platform is, just what version of the software you have.
