Hey guys, a noob here with not much other than an AEM ColdAir in....so far.
Anyway, I have an issue with my car in traffic or sitting idle where the engine heats up significantly (and this is a very recent thing). The needle will go up about 3/4 of the way through the gauge. But, after a few moments you can hear a click (sounds like a relay) and the temp will start going back down to normal operating levels. I can hear the fans running on high speed...and have done several tests with and without A/C on...you name it.
I can even at idle rev the engine up to 2-3k and after a few seconds feel a pull on the engine (as well as hear that click) and see the temp go back to normal....

Humm, could be a number of things . . . and most will need to be diagnosed at a shop . .. unless you have a mechanic background.
FWIW, try checking to see if you've lost some fluid . . . if you have an air bubble it could cause cooling problems, or check to see if the fans are coming on . . . relay or fan motor may be out, or the thermostat is stuck and you'll need to see if the coolant is circulating . . need to be careful doing this check as you need to get the car warmed up while the radiator cap is off and when it heats up you should notice the coolant start to circulate when it gets hot . . .
again, I suggest you have someone check this out unless you are skilled at this . ..

Well there were no codes stored. And if one was stored or even tripped, the Check Engine light would have come up.....
right?
This actually started after I got it back from Acura from its visit to the tranny doctor...

I would say air in the coolant or a faulty thermostat. You need to either bleed the coolant or replace the thermostat, both of which aren't that hard to do.
Either way, it's not good and you should get it fixed asap. You don't want you car to over heat.
