Consider this if you have a balancing prob that won't go away...

For a while on my stock wheels and now on my SSR's I have this small but annoying shake in the steering wheel and driver's seat. It comes on at 60 and just gets worse as speed increases. Deciding that it must be all four corners I took off my locking lug nuts and replaced them with the stock Acura one on each wheel. I even weighed them, coming up with 30 grams for the locking nut but only 16 for the stock nut. Yes I know they are very close to the center of the spinning wheel but there is nothing wrong with a simple experiment. So I headed out to the freeway and YEP....smoother than ever! I was so happy I even did a quick blast to 90...dead smooth. I even came home and decided to go back out just to make sure I wasn't hoping for the best and imagining it...smooth again.
So I hope this works for you..it should IF your rotors tires and wheels are right to start with!

Yeah but does that leave a truly balanced assembly that will result in a smooth ride at speed?

most people over torque the lugs that will result in shaking

that might have just been a coincidence. that is the result of a non hubcentric wheel. the centerbore of your wheel prolly a 72.1 doesn't match that of the CL's 64.1, so the wheel isn't perfectly centered making a small misalignment that increases with speed resulting in a vibration at higher speeds. now the luglock might have contributed to not letting the wheel align itself, but any time you reinstall the wheel, there is a chance the wheel will randomly find a centered position. but glad to hear the ride is smooth!

Yeah, I noticed this when I put on my brother's '01 Eclipse GT wheels on my car for shits and giggles a while back.

The wheels were really loose and I couldn't center them. Naturally, I didn't drive on those wheels.

Something is wrong here. My GT1s have a cone type seat and the stock wheels have a ball seat. These are not interchangable!
The SSR wheels come with plastic centering rings. A must use item!
I just weighed both style nuts and each bottomed out a 40 gram scale!

I realize we have different wheels from the same manufacturer, but this is one of those close is not good enough situations. Sieze ya.

I think you are using the wrong lug nuts! I think you need 60 degrees conical lugs

There is no "opposite" side.

It's 5 lug not 4.

I bought hub centric rings when I bought my rims.

I had to try a highway run without them to see if the really worked.

I had vibrations like crazy over 50mph.

Needless to say I couldn't wait to put the hub rings on.

I can top the car out and it's smooth as butter now.

The hub centric rings are the best 10 buck I spent.

Also, don't buy the pastic ones if you decide to get them.

Plastic ones tend to melt.

Here are some metel ones.........

Sometimes it's just improper balancing.

Some places that do tire balancing have a bigger margin of error than others.

Find a place that does high speed balancing using the Hunter Road Force machine.

It one of the most advanced machines out there.

Most of the higher end car dealers already use this machine.
