Comptech Vs Tein SS Coilover
Comptech springs Vs Tein SS Coilover
I am leaning towards the Comptech Sport Springs, but I see a lot of people putting Tein Coilover's on.
I was wondering if you had to do over again, would you just replace springs or put coilovers on?
Are Coilover's worth the money?
Are Coilover's harder to install?
Thanks...

coilovers if you can wait to save up. Check the black market once in awhile. Sometimes people that decide to go back to stock is selling them for a good price.
Coilovers are easier because its a direct swap. Rather then just putting the lowering spring onto the stock shocks.

Anyway, I'm lowered on H&R Sports, and if I had the money, I would get the Tein SS kit in a heartbeat. I don't regret the Sports at all. But the SS kit would just be better. If you have the money, go for the SS kit FOR SURE.

I love my tein's. I live in Chicago so we get abit of snow in the winter. With this set up I can raise it back to stock height so i'm not plowing the streets. In the summer I drop it back down with my summer tires, it's great having that flexability. This was my first winter with them and I was worried about the threads rusting with all the salt. They came out so far rust free I just checked them last weekend. I recommend if you have the money or even the tein basic's if you don't care about dampening.
thanks guys this is some great info...
My other question would be about the install of Coilovers. In order to install CT sports I need a spring compressor...Do I need one to install coilovers?
I was planning on putting CT sways on at the same time with the CT springs...If I go with coils, are the sways still needed?
Should the coilovers be installed by a pro or can I do it...?

Didn't you have to remove the top hat from the stock setup and put it on the Tein? I did for mine. Removing the top hat from the front springs required a spring compressor... well, doesn't really 'require' as you can use an impact gun and let the thing fly apart, but it makes it more safe. The Tein springs are so short that you don't really need a spring compressor to put it all back together and on the car.

Check out this tread: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=2 scroll down to where I posted about the Teins. But for a quick, condensed summary:
1. Coilovers are worth the money. You spend a little more at the moment, but you get spring AND shock at the same time. And they are both designed to work with eachother for the maximum optimal ride quality. The current price of Teins right now is $825 shipped. Comptech springs $300 + Koni Yellos $500 = $800 not shipped and you can't even adjust the height.
2. Coilovers are easier to install. All you need is the upper pillow mount from the stock spring and shock and your all set. Directions here.
Why are coilovers better than just spring or spring and shock? Well first off, it's the adjustable ride height. Stock tire size is 215/50/17. If you get a 225/45/17 tire, you will have more wheel gap. With coilovers, you can fix this problem. You can adjust it slightly lower so the wheel gap is relative. What about when it snows or rains, if your car is too low, you just have to deal with it. With coilovers you can adjust accordingly. The best way to appreciate it is to take a look at pictures:

Cambers? The only true way to know for sure whether or not you need camber is to get an alignment. Because each car, even the same model, can be slightly different the only accurate way is to have an alignment done. The alignment report will show how bad your camber is off by. Usually anything at -1 or less is considered acceptable. Stock is like -0.2 or something like that. Anymore than -1 will generally mean faster than normal wear.
A spring compressor is needed. Not necessarily for the Teins, but to get the upper pillow mount off the stock strut, you will need it.
Sways are independent of springs.
You can manipulate the height 0.5 inch up or down wihtout needing an alignment.

I have never had a alignment or my camber adjusted. At normal height the camber is fine. Lowered the camber looks on the (-) side ,but not drastic though. When I took off the summer tires i only noticed a super slight uneven wear and I like taking corners hard. I do rotate at every 5000. Plus i have Pilot sport a/s's . As for an alignment i have never had one since I owned the car and the steering wheel is perfectly straight and it drives straight. Good luck on your purchase.
