Comptech Header problem, suggestions needed!

Hissing or high pitch noise after intalling comptech headers, the car sounds like a ricer and the exhaust note is now actually weaker. ON idle u can hear the headers flow and the lick or rumble in the flex pipe.
under inspection on a a ramp i noticed the flex pipe is leaking, But when pulled back or when the flex pipe weave is stretched by being pulled away or pushed dwn with a screw driver/crow bar the leaking seems to stop
pls help how can i fix this, its a comptech header and flex pipe though i bought it used???

Did comptech have problems with their flex pipes also.... i know meagans, AW and other did but comptechs.???.........

The sound is just driving me crazy and like i said i think i am lossing some low end torque as the car does not sound as strong as it used to......

Help

Sure evrything is tight? Bad gaskets maybe? CT didn't have any issues like that.

Sounds to me like you have a leak some place. Re-check all the bolts.

Were these new headers or used?

I agree with the above comments. You need to drive a little then go back and retorque all the bolts.

The early versions of the headers had issues with the flex pipe being too tight. You had to flex it a little to get the weave to loosen up.

If they are used, any damage in the area of the flex pipe? Hopefully there isn't a hole in that area.

its possible plus i got them used and i definately felt the exhaust gas escape/heat when i feel around the flex pipe from underneath the jack/car
but as soon as i pull or stretch the weave on the flex pipe it goes away.
i believe the headers were originally bought in mid 2003, i dont know what batch it is, but i know its leaking................. maybe else where included but it is definately leaking at the flex pipe weave area unless like i said earlier u pull or strech it b4 it stops...

i believe some people must have experienced this, wht could u recommend???

Call Comptech and explain what you're experiencing. I don't know if they will really do anything though, since there are about 3 years old and you are not the original owner.

Maybe you can take it to an exhaust shop, and see if they can pin point exactly where the leak is and maybe there can weld it without doing too much damage.

i bought my headers in 2001 ...in '05 my flex pipe tore i'd say it was from bad motor mounts causing the engine to move beyond the range of the flex section...i called comptech and they sent me a new one...muffler shop weled it in for 50$

Good deal. It's good to see that some companies stand by their product.

the flex pipe with these headers breaks all the time. number of reason, bottoming out, motor mountings, shipping issues when used.

just do what typeR did.

Even though you bought them used I haven't heard of an issue like this with the Comptech's. Are there scrape marks on the header? If you have a leak you should see a black carbon buildup where the exhaust is leaking. Look at the inside of the flex pipe and see if anything has come apart.

I have this problem, but instead of a loud whining noise, its a rumble along with a lose in power (bad sputtering) while in 1st & 2nd gear.

My mechanic said the rumble noise came from the flex-pipe but I believe the flex pipe is causing the sputtering too.

Headers were also bought used.

Any ideas? (If CT can not provide a new one)
