comptech flywheel and clutch installed!!

all i can say is wow!!.i never felt such a big difference in acceleration and how it engages.it should have been offered at the factory like this.launching the car is so easy and smooth the pedal feels great and when you hit the gas in first holy cow it spins up so much faster and coming down in the revs is pretty quick but not as fast as i thought.going up a hill or just accelerating is so easy the car just wants to fly.talk about wheelspin you hit it in 3rd and wow it flies.feels nothing like a stock 6speed clutch.its night and day.one of the best investments i spent compared to the supercharger.it takes a while to get used to and the shifting part is so easy it just goes right in gear with no effort at all.all you six speeders i wish i could let you drive it you would order it the next day.now this is how a manual should feel.heres the pics chk just 1-6http://www.flwse.com/images/steve/Eric/

Wow that sounds awesome. This car really needs a lighter flywheel. What was the installation like? Do you have to pull the motor to do it? I would love to do this.

So... Types... do you think the S/C made more difference or the flywheel/clutch made more difference?

the supercharger made a bigger difference but the combination of both now really compliments eachother all i have to say is hold on in first gear allmotorits alot of work to install it give yourself10hrs every bit of it.it feels like im driving a totally different car.thank you comptech, shad, nate, joe, bob all of the guys at comptech deserve some real credit here for a wonderful job of creating the pkg as it should be

So types1967... what is the weight of the stock vs. CT flywheel/clutch? I take it, CT reuses the pressure plate. Also, could you post pictures of the stock multi-disk pressure plate and clutches. Just curious what they look like...

the difference in weight is 60%lighter.you reuse the stock pressure plate thats it the rest is their flywheel and clutch.i can tell you the stock dual mass flywheel and the comptech flywheel is night and day.i can frisbee the comptech flywheel and the stock one is so damm heavy.trust me on this mod well worth every dam penny

Not to rain on the parade, but with a flywheel that's 60% lighter, isn't there a potential problem addtional backlash loading/stress put on the rod bearings? What I mean is every time you let off the gas or hit a bump in the road, isn't that going to be extra stress transferred to the rod bearings?

not at all remeber all comptech did was reverse engineer the pkg.they put the springs in the clutch itself instead of the spring being in the dual mass flywheel itself.their is less load now on the bearings etc etc.also easier on the crank.already spoke to comptech about it thats why i got it

It already spins the end of 1st gear everytime... so it will probably end up being like the turbo...

i paid 675 for install total but new a friend at the dealer.cant mention who but price will vary could be 900 normally.its alot of work to pull the trans out and install a new setup.reasonable amount for 10hrs labor here in the east.its extensive to do the job as i have seen how much work it really is but again still worth the feeling of driving a very different car now

Actually I got a quote from $550 to $650 for the install from several dealers - hence the reason I haven't gone to them!!

If you pay > $650, you are getting ripped off!

Any downside to the new setup? Any difference in the shift smoothness? How "grabby" is the friction material in the clutch? Is it an on/off thing or about the same as stock?

I guess cali must just be cheaper. I really want to at least TRY to install it myself... but if the job gets too big, I'll take it somewhere! From what you have said about the performane gains... I'll do it soon

Man you guys are killing me. I just got rid of my 1993 Audi S4 because I was standing in my garage looking at trans #3 and thinking to myself that I really don't feel like doing another tranny. Now there is a great reason to take the tranny out of the new Type-S. Has anyone actually had one out? The Audi was a pain in the ass the first time but I was able to do one for a friend in 6 hours. It was listed as 10 hours dealer labor as well.

Sounds good. I just can't take my car apart like that now. I'll wait till I need a clutch. Also I'm afraid about long term reliabilty. Will this setup last for 60, 70, 100K miles? It would suck if in 30K miles a new clucth would be needed.

I'll probably wait until I burn up the stock unit before making the change. But this will more than likely happen within the next 10k miles.

I will do this myself though and snap pics for reference.
