Comptech Flywheel... clutch BROKEN!!

I've been running the Comptech Flywheel and the stock crank pulley for around 33K miles with no issues. ThinJim has been using the Comptech flywheel and is putting down around 460whp without blowing up the pressure plate. It slips a bit with that much power but he's at an extreme level.

sorry to hear that allmotor! I have the comptech clutch/flywheel set installed in my 03 cl-s too. Nice difference...love the performance! but like everyone else I would have never expected something like that from a comptech product.
2003 6spd cl-s
AEM CAI
comptech headers and mufflers
comptech clutch/flywheel
neuspeed short shifter adaptor
sport-comp monster tach meter
cam (pending)

We'll keep our fingers crossed
Based upon your setup, we'll find out for sure if it's the combination that makes the pressure plate fail. Are you using the stock friction disk in your setup? If so, you're really going to punish the clutch. At least the Comptech setup was using a sprung hub disk. By you reducing the curb weight of your car, you'll make the clutch work a bit less which may help.
You're a prime candidate for an upgraded pressure plate combo of some type - especially with the power you're putting down.

Shit! now I find this. My CT clutch and flywheel didnt last long at all, and the pressure plate exploded. I've had a spec stage 2 in for about 10,000 miles and its starting to sound like the pressure plate is falling apart again, little klinks here and there. OF COURSE i also have the UR pulley I'll swap it out asap. Hope its not too late-

My comptech flywheel, along with crank sensor just ate shit!!! it happened 3 weeks after I got my unorthodox pulley set. This sucks! that was a waste of 1,500 bucks! I COULD OF BOUGHT A SUPERCHARGER!!!F@#K $ ^%* %(#

Sorry to hear that. How long had you run your Comptech Flywheel before you added the UR Pulleys?
I've been running the Comptech Flywheel with SC for around 38K miles. I've had seal leaks but no problems related to the flywheel or pressure plate.

DO NOT USE THE UR CRANK PULLEY AND ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL TOGETHER< THERE IS NOT ENOUGH DAMPENING AND AS A RESULT THE PRESSURE PLATE GOES TO SHIT.
Not sure if an aftermarket clutch kit would be more resiliant and allow you to do both however.
You can try calling them and asking but they probably wont know, I think I called them onthis when the UR flywheel came out and they could not say. However the UR flywheel is only 2-3lbs heavier and the same thing will probably happen to your car if you try running both.

You can try and be the first person and try the pulley and flywheel together with their clutch kit. You could try purchasing their clutch kit and using the UR flywheel that you got.
If I had to pick one and money wasn't really an option it would be the flywheel since your removing more then twice as much weight. 17lbs with the UR flywheel, and 19-20 with the other ones. Versus the 7-8 with the crank pulley.

Its pricey though about $700 for the flywheel and $650 for the clutch kit, we're trying to get them to drop the prices.

And I would agree. Between the two, go with the Flywheel. In addition to the lighter weight, the position of the weight is important. The weight reduction on the outer edge of the flywheel is more productive than the weight reduction on the outer edge of a crank pulley since the diameter of the flywheel is greater. Same concept as heavy 19" wheels slowing down acceleration. The additional benefit is you get a single mass flywheel and better/easier clutch engagement. It drives like a clutch should.

What is this better clutch engagement that you speak of?

We're assuming it would be compatible if everyone built there stuff right, usually it comes down to the splines on the PP needing some more clearance or something along those lines (refering to the CM kit).
Just saying if you have any plans for FI dont get that clutch.

SPEC is the only other company that I know of selling a pressure plate that will work with the lightweight flywheel.
I think ThinJim was selling a used Comptech Flywheel. PM him and see if he still has it. I personally like mine and it's holding up fine. BTW - $200 for the friction disk is a good price.

If he is only looking for added performance from the lightweight UR flywheel he doesn't need to worry about an upgraded pressure plate or a stronger clutch.
You can not use the stock clutch with the UR Flywheel since you'll lose so much mass the driveability would severely suffer. You need a sprung clutch (like the Comptech piece).

It won't work with the stock flywheel.

i put 7000 miles on my clutch kit, still hook up well
SPEC is the same as the OEM PP with blue paint, so NO don't buy that! You can not use lighten FW with lighten crank pulley without upgrading the PP. it's either the FW or the crank pulley...

I've driven a few setups, but im just forgetful I guess. I want to see how the clutch engagement compares.
