Unless you have a car like cocoa, I think there is a big difference between a 3.0 cl auto vs cl-s 6 speed IMO if you are comparing that the max. I mean, they are ok but no means are they a "fast" car. I believe the CL and Max are basically even. Someone people forget that the fact that they do have a bigger motor. Perfect example is Type R's 3.5 swap and boltons running 13.4 or 13.3..I can't remember which one.

those maximas got a lot of little mods to do to them to gain power besides bolt ons like intakes and headers. I know for a fact that this particular maxima even has more work done to his than the blue maxima that is faster than this one. I think a lot of test and tuning needs to be done wit our motors to see what else can be gotten out of them beyond bolt ons but not many people do it, but i am.

There's plenty that can be done to the J motors - it's just not worth the money in most cases.
Boost makes anything faster - and more short lived. Strap a blower on and away you go.....
ReMapping the ECU with a Hondata or AEM EMS setup is always a way to maximize your power. I think you could get a tuner to do this - I'm not sure how readily availalbe these are for the J motor.
People get too caught up in the bolt-on game. Bolting on parts frees up missing HP - tuning it makes full use of the potential of the vehicle. Get an Air/Fuel controller, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and have someone dial it in on the dyno. Hondas are well tuned from the factory - but you might find as much as 3-4% more HP by dialing it in properly.
Weight reduction - if you can't add power - lose weight. Ditch the spare tire and jack for a can of fix-a-flat. Put some lighter wheels and tires on with nitro inflation. Carbon fiber hood and trunk - you could easily drop 100+ lbs off the beast and free up a tenth of a second.
If you wanted to spend $8k - $10k and build and bore / sleeve / deck / stroke / lower compression / port / polish / upgrade fuel and boost it - theres no reason you couldn't get 450 - 500 whp out of that motor and be able to drive it - but it's still a tubby FWD car at the end of the day.
The J motor needs the makeover that the B motor got a few years back (B replacement = K motor) with 25 - 30% gains in power and as much as 35% gains in displacement. I think the new TL-S motor is a step toward the future - but not the re-work it needs. The problem is that it's such a solid performing and dependable platform - they really don't have any reason to go away from it.
Compare it to the crap V6's coming out of Detroit and Korea....and you realize what a good motor it really is - even today.
Comparing the VQ35 to the J32 is like comparing the C32 to the J32. It's not apples and apples.
I think the Honda R&D is busy with a small V8 for the Acura lines. I'd expect a 3.8 to 4.0 liter V8 making 300hp/280 ft/lbs as a base model and a 330hp/300 ft/lbs as the "Type S" - Conservatively. Obviously - there's much more power to be unlocked there.
It's all going to waste without RWD or AWD as an option.
I'll rah-rah Honda and Acura products all day - I love them - but the VQ35 is a superior platform (if purely looking at output) to the J32 motor.

How much faster is a car with a VQ35(not including a 350z or g35coupe since almost every nissan shares the same motor with minor diferences)?
I saw this because you mention its superior to a motor that was started in 2001 and not changed between that timeframe and 2003.
I do however get what you are attempting to explain.

The VQ35 seems to get a power bump about every 2 years. I !!!!THINK!!!! it started at 240 - then showed up in 260 and 280hp levels.
A well driven stock Z or should turn 14 flat / high 13s. IDK 60' or trap speeds - etc.
I get a length or two on them and pull gradually in my S2000 with a couple bolt-on goodies - but they throw down pretty well for stock cars - alot more low grunt than the honda.

a car with a vq35 is neccessarily faster than the J32 i just think its quicker...the only reason those fuckers are beating us in the 1/4 is because of all that damn torque. those things pull ridiculously hard...but i can shit on a vq35 with the same mods as me from a roll but off the line they tend to get a better jump...ive been working on my launch and i thnk ive found a way to void all that torque they have but we will see when we go back out there this weekend

It just feels slow. Hasnt felt fast since last monday when I spun out bad bounce of the rev limiter a couple times and had a lot of wheel hop causing the check engine light to flash for a few minutes constantly.

If you need too, stop by and I'll scan it for codes. There can be codes stored in the ecu and you not see a CEL I believe. I could be wrong.

Are you kidding me? For the love of the manufacturer - go trade that thing in and get yourself a nice Cobalt or something to beat the bejesus out of. No point in taking a PROPERLY engineered car and treating it that way.
If you want to improve your fuel by spending $15 on an 8oz bottle of "octane booster" - you'd be better off spending that $15 on a bottle of Vodka. You'd get better results drinking it all and pissing in the gas tank. Run some actual 115 through there and see what the ECU thinks about it....

Good lord - I feel like my IQ has dropped a few points just reading this crap.

As you're apparently oblivious to sarcasm, as well as being completely owned by the English language:
1. When a semi-serious car guy with an Acura and an S2000, as well as an itenerary of nothing but Honda products for the last 10 years in their signature, tells you to go out and "buy a nice Cobalt" - he's probably being sarcastic.
2. Aside from all 15 people outside the state of West Virginia, Arkansas, and Kentucky that consider a Cobalt a nice car, it's kind of common sense what garbage econo-boxes that GM makes.
3. If you'd like to even be taken semi-seriously in a forum, with looking for assistance in resolving mechanical issues; try speaking English.
4. If you can hear fuel injectors under an enclosed intake manifold system V6, in a FWD Acura with substantial sound dampening, over the sound of a Cold Air Intake, Headers, Exhaust of any variety, and normal tire and road noises - you need to be working for Bose or some sound testing lab.
5. You're not going to notice the effects of an octane booster additive on a 3500lb car. The peppy feel you might have some semblance of may actually be a slightly better throttle response - but at the end of the day - it's not shaving tenths off your times. This is all in your head.
6. By making statements such as "man did that bitch pick up speed" - you're insinuating a positive result from the use of the fuel injector cleaner product.
7. I type about 9-billion words a minute, or I wouldn't have just wasted 3 minutes of my life with a response.
A final suggestion from a life-long Honda enthusiast:
Go buy a Kia. You don't deserve an Acura. I hear octane booster is good for 35 WHP and 40 ft/lbs of torque on the Kia V6.

1.Okay i wasnt looking for mechanical assitance as i know a great deal about my car and other cars as well...2. I could hear my fuel injectors ticking while the car was at an idle, in park, with the hood up, and even better with my a mechanics stethoscope, i didnt say anything about hearing them while driving? 3. The only thing im looking for from the octance booster is better throttle response. If i was looking for Hp and/or torque i would jus go buy a bottle of NOS and use that.. I very serioulsy doubt it would even shave off a hundreth of a second let alone a tenth thats what my unichip is for...4. And yes i am insinuating that the fuel injector did indeed clean the shit out of my fuel injectors because i dont hear that annoying ass ticking anymore. as for "man did that bitch pick up speed" the affect of the fuel injector cleaner being in my tank and slowing down my car may have given me the perception that the car felt a little stronger when it all burned off and i put the gas i normally put into my car into my gas tank. 5. And maybe u should buy a Kia they may apprciate ur sarcasm a little more than the decent human beings on this acura forum
