Cold Engine Stumble

Maybe Jens, Ant, or Scalbert can help me out here. When the engine is first started and is completely cold like in the morning (outside temp has nothing to do with it) the car idles normal but the first two or three times I step on the gas lightly the car bogs and stumbles to the point I think it might stall but it never actually does. It does this for maybe 1/2 second then takes off like normal. After about 3-4 minutes of driving the condition is gone and the car is normal. No check engine lights at all. It has been doing this for a while but is a little worse now. I had this issue before the supercharger so I don't think its related. I have run all kinds of fuel injector cleaner though it hoping that was the problem but no luck.

IAC (intake Air Control).... got to adjust it with the Supercharger Installed....Scalbert and Myself both had to adjust ours...

There is a screw covered over with wax on the throttle body.. disconnect the battery then you got to turn it 1/2 turn counter clock wise at a time..... Got your Helms?... it will help.

I have the same issue on my 6 speed. Cold starts in the morning. I hold revs to 2500 then release the rpm's drop under 500 feels like it will stall then jumps back up to normal. Happens if I press the gas quickly then release it too.
Also if I stall the car then try to start back up. The car cranks really slow, starts, but the rpm's are below 500 car feels like it will stall, then jumps up.

Any ideas?

This started after I had the dealer adjust the vales beacuse of excessive valve lash. I have since driven about 4K miles the last 1 1/2 months. I had hoped it would work itself out, but it hasn't. I scanned the car no codes were present.

Anyone know of a TSB that might address this?

I have not noticed this problem on my CLS, but I always warm up my engine before putting it into 1st gear or reverse gear.

do you guys warm the car?

<edit> "cold engine stuble" I guess the answer is NOPE...

I call comptech and they told me it is normal, but I think fuel pressure is too low at idle. Comptech set our fuel pressure at about 38psi @ 20inch of vacuum. I think the acura service manual want it to be around 45psi. I think fuzzy02cls symptom is cause by a bad IAC valve.

I have found that my CL-S6 does not like running cold. It doesnt idle very smooth and can be kind of jerky on acceleration. Now, granted I'm not flooring it while its still cold, but even steady rpm increases makes the engine kind of un-smooth. I now let it warm up for at least a couple minutes when its really cold out and it seems to help.

Its not that it doesnt like cold weather, because I can tell it really likes the cold intake temps, it just doesnt like running smooth until the fluids are at operating temps. Maybe its a safety feature built-in so people dont drive it like crazy until its warmed up.

It's not fuel pressure... The Comptech FPR in vacuum vs. the stock FPR in vacuum are very different.

During a cold-start is the idle high (say 1.2K to 1.5K)? If that is so, do the following:

When the engine is fully warmed up, set idle at 900RPMs... you'll be fine.

cold start idle is around 900-1000 rpm only. Warm idle is almost the same, just a little lower at maybe 750-850 rpm. I will try to set at 900 and try again tomorrow

I let the car warm up a little, but it doesn't really matter. It still has these symptoms even after the car has beed driven, but it's less then when it's first started. IAC valve? I have to check that this weekend. I'd go to the dealer, but they are closed by the time I get out of work. None of the dealers do warranty work on Saturday

Set idle to 900rpm. Started the car to leave work, hit the gas very lightly and..it bogs like ususal. After 1 minute of driving the condition is gone. I don't want to take it to the dealer. Their answer for everything is that my supercharger is causing the problem!

Why don't you pull out the IAC and clean it?
Also... adjusting the TPS might help as well.

I took off my TB & cleaned it as well as the IAC last night. I never took the TB off before. My was it easy! Used some Gumout FI/carb cleaner. Had some build up but it wasn't bad. I was done in like 20 minutes. After the car trying to start for 30 seconds, it started, I ran the idle learn procedure. Let the car sit overnight. This morning the car started right up, & DID NOT stumble, or drop the RPM's like it wanted to stall. So far it's seems cured.
Still don't understand why this would help. It wasn't really dirty. I had 10 year old trucks that had 1/2 inch layers of carbon build up & they still ran fine.

Well, my problem still exists. Went away, then started back up Saturday morning. Could it be a bad IAC valve? It's $85 for a new one. I don't want to repalce it if it's not bad. Anyway to test it?

My 03 manual does the same exact thing. Only has 2500 miles and I've used nothing but 94 octane since day 1.

Sounds like the nature of the beast, not a dirty part.

It only started up a few months ago. I have 21K miles & it started at about 18K. Didn't do it before.

Fuzzy, this sounds exactly what mine has done since day one.

Maybe it is a throttle position issue.

my 03-6 does that always when cold: I keep it under 3k for the shifts, but it feels like it lurches up to 3k and sometimes feels like the fuel cuts out momentarily, and it has done this for as long as I can remember, i have 32k on it now, seems to get better as it warms up...wondered if I was alone with this, guess not...
