CLS6, Salvage title, needs TLC on Autotrader
03 CL-S 6-speed with 80K miles, NBP on Ebony
Notes:
Salvage/Recon Title
bald tires
Paint bubbling peeling and fading
Dents, Dings etc
No Nav
05 TL wheels?
Sounds like an OK price, but the salvage title kills it for me. 9K for a clean title that needs some work would've been well worth it right?

Yeah, I'd never mess with a car with a salvage title. A little work here and there, not a problem...
Also, this one's got a chrome grill... I thought 03s came with a painted grill? If the grill was replaced, probably means it was hit in the front.

You can find some high mileage 6spd models with clean titles for a little more, so it makes no sense to buy something that needs work AND has a salvage title...
Some examples of cheap 6spds here:

This one has 110K miles, clean title, needs nothing, only $9900 and loving owned by a member here:

Some insurance companies won't insure cars with a salvage title, and the are other ramifications from owning a salvage titled car (shitty resale, etc)...
Check out this video, and tell me you'd feel safe in a car with a salvage title:

yea they are asking too much, but if you talk down the price and find out a little history on the car then its worth it to me, i deal with salvage all the time, its just a matter of finding out what happened to it, how long ago it was salvaged, how bad the damage was etc, just give it a thorough lookover.. you can always tell what parts were replaced/painted and if you cant then they did a good job, id atleast go look at it, the miles are right and low

his car wasn't even salvaged but just pointing out how badly a car can be abused and he traded the car in and the dealership actually took it

Salvaged cars aren't bad, if you know what has happened to it and you've been around. In fact my dad is driving a slavaged Mazda 3 as we speak.
Sometimes cars get written off for the stupidest reasons. Could be that theres some minor cosmetic damage and the guy didn't want the car anymore, maybe a sideskirt is gone some minor suspension damage and voila you have the perfect opportunity to buy a Lexus IS350 for 20-25K.
Most people tend to avoid cars that have been hit up front like that, you just need to know the people that do the repairs and know how it was when it was bought at auction.

i went to go check out the car today. of course the dealer was closed so no one to talk to. it looked like it had side damage. the entire quarter panel was peeling and the hood was peeling. on the door, you could tell they half assed the body work and you can see DA swirl marks from sanding it underneath the paint. they did a half ass paint job, the entire side had orange peel. the rear bumper looked like it was hit cuz it had a bulge in the center and the paint was cracked. it would need a new paint job for sure and maybe a new rear bumper. i have pictures i took, ill post them up once i upload them to my comp.

I was in the area and drove by there earlier just for the hell of it. I knew it was in bad shape from the pics but damn lol! definitely needs quite a bit of body work and a paint job for sure. Looked under it and couldn't notice any obvious frame damage though. Its seen some serious abuse to only have 80K miles
I'm 21, go to school and buy sell and work on cars to make a little extra $$ to pay for this $3.50 gas. I just avoid salvage titled cars altogether because they're nearly impossible to move... it scares people away. I know what a good buy is and what isn't... and this one definitely isn't... I'm just really surprised to see that a reputable mainstream dealership (Saturn of Lewisville) would sell something like this without fixing it up a bit first.
But then again, it is a Saturn dealership and this car is probably in better shape than an 03 saturn anything
