Allright boys, this will be kinda long but hopefully entertaining.

After I got home from the meet on Saturday, me and my friends decided to jet over to AC for some blackjack and craps. My friend was supposed to drive his 528, but his car got stuck in the mud right in his yard and dont even ask what it was doing there . Anyway, so I had to take my car.

Driving along AC expressway, there is a 00 or 01 maxima I think GLE. We both were close to each other slicing through traffic as we finally find a two-lane straight with no cars ahead to get it on. So I think here we go, he is in the left lane, Im on the right, I pull forward a bit to see if he is willing and he is so we go from about 80mph, I down shift to 4th and we pretty much stay neck in neck with me ACTUALLY falling behind by about half a car length. I was surprised I did not take him, but keep in mind that AC Expressway is infested with troopers so I am shitting myself trying not to get a ticket and trying not loose as well. So we get to about 115 still neck and neck. I guess I should've shifted in 3rd and blown his ass away. Eh, you live you learn.
Further down after the $2 toll (for those familiar) I catch up to a Z (the latest body style) and a Eclipse GST. Z is in the left lane and Eclipse is somewhere there as well. Keep in mind, while I am doing all this I am arguing with my friend (who is in the back seat)about whether 330 can beat my car. I say we are even, he says I will get smocked. I asked if he knows 0-60 or 1/4 times on the 330, but he of course did not. Point taken.
So I pull along side the Z and test if he is willing, he starts pulling on me, so now I shit in 3rd (ahh how nice !) and I pull on him, but something tells me he did not want to race, or maybe it was not a twin turbo (or Am I wrong here, some are TTs and some are not?, clarification needed). So I pull further up, trying to be as careful as I can not to run into a cop, and now the GST wants some of me. Ok, lets bring it on.
I am in the left lane, he is in the middle, and at first I was not looking for a race but he pulls on me about two car lenthgs, so I decide to represent. I downshift into 3rd and blow by him, he apparently did not appreciate it and tries to catch up. I slow down because I have a really bad feeling I will get pulled over. He catches up. We go at it again, I just downshift into 3rd and wave goodbye to the GST. I am sure he got ticked again, because when I slowed down, he caught up and went ahead, but I did not even bother. I had enough, plus my friend was irritating me with his prothologies on how fast the Z is and now he was busting on me by
saying that since he drove it for the whole five minutes when he was looking to buy it and shitted his pants because it was so quick he thus becomes the expert. He said I cant say anything because I did not drive it so we left at that plus it was time to decide which Casino we are gonna go to. We went to tropicana because we have not been there yet, which was a mistake cause I dropped 200 there, which could've easily been used to buy a Xypher CAI. It was not my night. Overall, I burned a tank of gas on saturday and put close to 340mi onto the car. Whoa.

I'll give u a little hint on why it jumps back into 4th. i have found this out by doing extensive road trips from CA to AZ and back and back again and so on. OK, if your near the red line of 3rd gear, and you have your FOOT on the gas, it will not downshift. B/c, i beleive it it idiot proof, it thinks the driver did the shift on accident so it will correct for you. If you want to downshift at those speeds, what you do is let of the gas FULLY, then downshift to 3rd. go try it out, i'm pretty sure that is how it works, thats what i found out from experience. if you have any ?'s feel free to email me

I had a similar experience with a Maxima, at about the same speed. But instead of down shifting to 4th, I just left it in d5, and continued to pull away. At that speed if you want to down shift you should definitely be in 3rd. Once you get the hang of SS you will be able to shift like a pro.

Geez, I was doing about 113 in 3rd -- no problemo.

I got it to go back into 3rd from 4th by just doing a quick let-off.

The Z...if it was stock....was a turbo if it had only single tail pipes on the mufflers...if it was N/A..it would have twin pipes on each muffler...a weird thing...you would think the turbo would have the twin pipes, but, alas, they do not. If it was a turbo, those are no joke....easily a 13-sec car....damn fast!!

great story big pimp. i have a long story too. i also raced a 00 or 01 white maxima. it had a bodykit, rims, & a very loud exhaust. don't know what else he had. anyway, i was coming home from hin on the gsp at about 1:30am doing about 80 & i pass the maxima. he catches up and comes next to me & starts revving. (i didn't want to race cause i know maximas are fast from previously owning a 96 & the new one are supposed to be faster. i also didn't want to go home in shame that night) but he revs his engine and tries to taunt me for the next 4 miles. so i switch to ss, shift into 3rd, & slam the gas at 85mph. at about 135 i have about 4 or 5 car lengths because i could see him in my rearview mirror in the other lane. he couldn't gain on me but i also couldn't lose him. after about 10 minutes, i had to slow down because there were too many cars. i didn't think it was worth it to continue. this guy must have been real pissed because after i slow down and pull into the right lane, he still wants to race. for the next 20 minutes he's on my left, revving his engine. i wave g-bye and continue home at my leisurely pace.
i think i need to mod my car if i'm going to race anything faster because i don't ever want to go home w/ my head up my a**.
i also noticed that the ss automatically shifts into 4th from 3rd when it hits redline. anyway, that's my story. sorry so long.

I was surprised nobody stepped up to race. Just about the most ricers I've ever seen in one area.
