CLS vs Accord coupe resale value: SAD
Here is an interesting little tidbit on how well our cars hold their value:
Per Edmunds:
2001 CLS Black, 75k miles, outstanding condition
Trade: 13527
Private party: 15097
Dealer: 16599
Certified: 18499
2001 Accord V6 coupe Black, 75k miles, outstanding condition
Trade: 12489
Private party: 14434
Dealer: 16279
Certified: 17629
Now, since the CLS was really closer to an 02 model, here are the 02 Accord prices
2002 Accord V6 coupe Black, 75k miles, outstanding condition
Trade: 14235
Private party: 15674
Dealer: 18142
Certified: 19492
Thus, our cars being Acuras and superior to the Honda Accord Coupe in EVERY conceivable way are worth essentially equal to that of an Accord.
With these prices out there, who in their right mind would buy the Accord?
SAD.... Talk about being locked into a car--and I'm one of the lucky ones whose car is paid off but just doesn't want to take a bath on selling the CL.

Well, unless you swap CLS cyl. heads + manifold + TB
And still, no comparison

Accord VS CLS
Well, having owned an Accord prior to my CLS, I have to tell you up here (Canada) there is a big difference in resale price. I jumped three years form a 98 Accord to an 01 CLS and paid a $11K difference.
I think that "list" prices from sources like edmunds and others are just a guide. What cars really sell for is often very different.
When I first got the CLS I was a bit dissapointed... I guess that I had really built it up in my mind, but I would never go back to the regular Honda.
The level of luxury and the power difference make it a totally different class of car. I just wish that it was red (like my Accord was).

I bought my Acura because I thought it would have a great re-sale value. It's not bad when compared to some domestic vehicles, but sometimes I wish I would have waited and bought an Accord 6spd instead...
I'll probably keep my CLS for awhile now that the re-sale is in the crapper, and it'll probably become my winter beater

Looking at autotrader in the philly area, there aren't a whole lot of cheap CLS's to be had.

BTW, my last car was an 1994 Ford Thunderbird.... They discontinued it in 1997
EDIT: I sold my Tbird for $700 w/ 136K miles on it... It went so cheap because the tranny was dying (It might have just needed a torque converter, but I wanted a new car anyways).

I kinda like the fact that my CLS isn't popular, and you don't see many around.

Interesting enough there is a 01 CLS with spolier with 72000miles @ at my Acura local dealer, i'd say from looking at it, its in average condition. It only comes with a 30 Warranty. 2 months ago it was 17.9, now its reduced to $16,000.
My bet is whoever buys it could get it somewhere around 14.5, if they know how to haggle
