CLS vs 05 GTO

I have a question for everyone, my sisters boyfriend just bought a new 05 Pontiac GTO Automatic. It is nice, but my question is, what will it take for me to be faster then him. He has 400 hp, 400 tq, v8, 4 speed automatic. My mods are in my sig. Is there anything I can except for turbo to be able to beat him.

Right now, he'd probably win, unless he screws up big time. Not sure how fast the autos are, but there are vids of stock GTO manuals running like 12.8s. Turbo would probably give you what you need to beat him, or possibly an intercooler kit.

edit: New autos go 0-60 in 4.6 seconds according to Pontiacs website. Still trying to find 1/4 mile #s.

Probably your best bet.

He weighs just as much as us, so theres no advantage there. And if you start from a roll, he loses the advantage of RWD as you won't spin and hop. It would be an interesting race, as your two cars would be pretty even, if you were to run a HBP and Intercooler.

Who cares who'll win, maybe he'll screw up his unbroken-in engine!
Not a big Pontiac (or GM or Ford or Chrysler) fan.
at least on this Pontiac they removed the house siding trim panels.

With an automatic CLS how much HP can be gained through the addition of a supercharger, intercooler, and HBP? Assume current configuration is stock with headers + exhaust.

It wouldn't even be close. My fiance has an 04 GTO with a 6-speed and that thing is so much faster than my TL-S (stock). And now with 50 more hp and 30 lb/ft more torque, I can't even imagine what kind of ass whooping that thing would give me. I say don't bother racing him and just see if he'll let you drive it!

Sounds like it would be a pretty fun race. As long as you didn't get a shit load of axle hop on your launch I think it would be a driver's race.

I think 13.3 is a bit optimistic. MrSteve is putting down more HP/TQ (SC and HBP) and his best is a 13.4@108. I don't think anyone has gone to the track more than him either.

If you wanna beat the GTO you will definitely need the intercooler setup (w/e-manage) and running about 8-9psi. Throwing in some 101 octane won't hurt either. I'd bet the FWD on our vehicles loses us about 0.3-0.5 seconds in the 1/4 times due to lack of traction.

You're over on the Gulf Coast, right? My fiance's parents just moved to that area, so if we do get over there I'll make sure I get in touch with you. Of course, I'd have to convince her that I'd be racing the GTO. No biggie though, if it weren't for me she wouldn't have even bought the 6-speed. Now she thanks me almost every day for telling her to get the manual.

Actually, her grandmother moved down there pretty recently as well. She lives in New Port Richey and I'm not sure where her Mom moved to. I know that it's real close to her grandmother though.

No way the CLS would win. A FWD car vs. one with RWD and a V8 (auto or MT) is a no-brainer.

Are people lookig at his sig????
Hes got every bolt on out there, plus a supercharger. He would give the GTO a run for its money. With an Intercooler and HBP, he could probably beat him from a roll.

There would be no murderous one sided race here.

You've seen 2 on the road??!! Just kidding, but man they are pretty rare to see. It's wierd though, my fiance has a yellow one with chrome wheels. She has seen two of them on the road and they were both yellow as well.

Yeah cuz RWD + V8 automatically means you'd lose.

Tell that to Mustang GT owners that get beat by our N/A FWD V6's.

The GTO is obviously a different beast, 400/400 is nothing to sneeze at. Would definitely be interested in seeing the outcome of this race ... What do the Auto GTOs put down on the dyno's? If you figure a 20% drivetrain loss through the auto tranny, then the GTO is putting down about 320whp ... and then if you figure that mrsteve's CL-S puts down nearly 300whp before the intercooler, you probably have a good race on your hands.

Intercooled, e-managed CLS with supercharger (10psi) will kick ass even 05 GTO auto unless it modded. Crazy 3.5 Hybrid CLS (Type R) should take 04 GTO but doubt on 05 unless he (Type R) add more mods .

On the side note I would still get LS6 Vette despite the price difference with GTO. Sorry but its Pontiac. Vette is ICON.

I'm not trying to add fuel to the fire here, but by adding headers and intake to the GTO it still walks whatever CL/TL Type-S you throw at it.

Thats cool, but No way. GTO needs more mods then intake and headers. More like cyl. heads, headers, intake, exhaust, ECU and driveshaft to run with say turbo CLS especially with what allmotor has with 419whp.

Of course RWD helps along with more displacement, but dont discount the CLS.

I don't think there is a 20% drivetrain loss in a GTO auto. look at how the camaro and trans am's HP was underrated by GM. The GTO is basically a corvette in different clothes. I wouldn't be surprised if it dyno's in the upper 300's

Current vette Z06 (405hp claimed) is underrated and typically dyno 350-360whp. Assuming 17% loss on 360whp = 433 crank hp. My guess, 05 GTO (400hp) should dyno 340-350whp stock 6MT and autos around 330whp

Same league as a Supercharged CL with HBP. And they have no weight advantage, so from a roll it should be a dead even race pretty much. Now add an intercooler and hes toast.

Trade up for an 04 Mustang Cobra. The Cobra will still put the GTO in it's place.
