Okay, I talked to ClutchMasters. What I am writing here is my opinion only.... it is not proven fact.

Someone (probably of one of the two people here) sent ClutchMasters a Comptech flywheel which I believed they copied. They then matched various stages of a sprung disc and a 'mystery' pressure-plate. When I asked ClutchMassters how their pressure-plate differs from the stock unit, they stated that other than the 'color' one cannot tell the difference. He then mentioned that they 'remove' the self-adjusting mechanism and heat-treat the diaphragm to provide better clamping force. I suggested that removing the self-adjusting mechanism would make the pressure-plate look quite different visually... he then corrected himself and said that they would look different... He also mentioned that I would not 'feel' any difference with their pressure-plate. In my experience... ANY modification to the clamping force of the pressure-plate can be felt even in a dampened hydraulic system.

Now, they do offer various stages of discs.... 4-puck, 6-puck with kevlar, ceramic or a combination. They quoted $950 for the flywheel and $350 for the disc. The entire package with the pressure-plate is $1800. He also mentioned that they don't think the stock pressure-plate would work with their flywheel so they won't warranty their clutch unless everything is purchased as a package.

While they may be providing an upgraded product I think they have merely copied the Comptech flywheel, supplied a unique clutch disc and possibly do something to the factory pressure-plate. I asked them if I could check-out one of these systems personally and they said that it is 'made-to-order' and I would have to pre-pay first. I hope I am wrong because I personally would love to get my hands on a flywheel + disc + stronger pressure-plate with the self-adjusting removed, but I think I am dreaming....

Just my $0.02 worth!

Allmotor - As a side issue, what does removing the self adjusting mechanism do to the pressure plate? Also, over the live of the unit?

To my understanding of how this works... removing the self-adjusting mechanism would result in varying pressure (i.e. contact force) as the clutch disc wears out with time and use.

$1800 thats a bunch of sh**!!! they charged me $ 1200.00 for the whole set-up, if you cant get them to lower the price send me $1300 pay -pal and i will get it done 4 you and shipped to your door, and the part about the stock and upgraded pressure plate being the same thickness is a lie.. when i tore up the full kevlar pucked disk clutchmasters asked me if the could "MILL" the upgraded one so i wouldnt go through disks so fast because it is warrantied, of course i said hell no!!!!! i live about half hour from their facility and know the people there pretty good.. tell them mike from downey with the cl-s that they blue printed the package from sent you and the price and they will hook you up.. i will call them tomorrow and let them know that fellow cl-s owners will be calling ..$1200+shipping no more and stand your ground if they dont budge...they afterall are a business and want to make money and please their clientel..

and by the way " allmotor 2000" you wont rip the rivets off, you will rip the clutch surface also called "the face" off the rivets. and if you havent ran into that with your stock disk then you must not go over 4k rpms, and really dont like to use your 420whp?

Eh? I drive my car quite hard everyday - anybody that knows me can attest to this. Anyways, I think the stock clutch is okay except for hard shifts into 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th when the gearing is so high that you could slip the clutch - I tend to go easy on the shifts for this purpose.

In any case I'd like to see your 489whp CL-S - maybe we can get a little race going

Hmm, still waiting for details concerning the 489 hp cls. Pics, details, specifications please. Turbo? I doubt this power would be made by supercharger. Those numbers are well beyond the limit of the comptech unit. Very curious about this. Please reply.

I really dont think anyone here is trying to be a dick about it but we are really interested in your setup. 489whp can easily be done on these motors and thats why we are so intrigued...No offense dude, we're just excited about fast CL's...

FYI: ThinJim is building a CL-S that will have much more than 489whp so i'd hate for you to eat your words later.

No need to get defensive cl8trr. If the bar has been raised, we're all interested in the path to 489whp. That's what these forums are about - helping others achieve more.

Agree 100%...I love it when others raise the bar a bit. Makes you work harder for your new set goal. (if that's the case)

If someone has the time I'm sure they could call Turbonetics and ask if they designed a one-off system for a CL-S.

I would tend to agree. Very few people who are making said power behave and respond in this manner. Sad but true.

How is that to fit in the engine bay of our cars? That has to be designed for sandrail applications.
