Clear coat question
Clear coat question
I have a question on Honda/Acura and their use of Clear Coats:
My 03 Accord had a discoloration spot (sort of a gray color) on the hood and front fender for the past few months. I tried washing it and waxing it a few times since it appeared, but nothing could remove the discoloration.
When I brought my Accord into service, they said it looked like a paint malfunction, and made an appointment to see the Honda rep from Honda Corporate that visits the dealer once a month. I met with the guy and he came to the conclusion that it was dirt that had somewhat embedded itself into the paint. He was able to mostly get it out by compounding it thankfully. When I asked how this could have happened, he mentioned that Honda does not use a clear coat on their White or Black cars. He also said clear coats are used to keep the metallic paint chips bonded which used in many colors but not in their White and Black colors.
Does anyone know if the guy was telling the truth? I'm pretty pissed they didn't use a clear coat, as it's a bitch to keep really clean and I don't want my paint stained. I guess I will have to be really rigorous with the waxing. My old White Dodge Intrepid had a nice clear coat though. Why is Honda being cheap in this regard? Do White CL's have a clear coat?
