cleaning under the hood

ok, so like i was installing those polarg's the other day and had to pop the hood (been a year since i looked in there!) and it looks dirty (ofcourse). theres all this white stuff there kinda like salt or some sorta mildew or something .. do ya know what I'm talkin about?

so do you guys clean under the hood ? (no pun intended!!)

what do you use to clean it? i can only imagine all that grit being bad for the car?

I open the hood and wipe down everything visible each time I wash my car.I just use the towel that I dried the car with. This way there is never any build up.

Those work well. That powder you see is the salt reacting with the aluminium. Not good. Neutralize it with Simple Green or if you want that hot rodder smell, use Gunk Degreaser. The after smell is kinda hot roddy! I use it on my ol' Pontiac.
