Cleaning
Cleaning
Hello all...I was curious as to what brand each person decided to go with as far as leather and vinyl protectant. I am currently using Lexol's leather conditioner, protectant, and vinyl cleaner. While I have no complaints about the conditioner and leather protector, I find that the vinyl protector is not very good. Any suggestions? Also how do you guys clean the perforated leather? Any fears of liquid seaping inside the holes? Thanks in advance for any help!
I tried Lexol's Vinlyex and didn't like it either. I recently used STP's Son of a Gun on the dash and it worked out well.
I use Zaino's Leather in a Bottle for the leather and while it smells great, I'm not sure how well it actually does protect. It seems to work okay but I'd also like to hear what others are using.

I have all of the Lexol stuff and stopped using it. I use “303” protectant and I highly recommend it. I've just been using the 303 for now on the seats -- the seats are coated leather. 303 Aerospace Protectant link: http://www.303products.com/protectant.htm
I keep any protestants OFF the dash and just use a damp microfiber towel with distilled water in a rinse bucket to wipe down the interior. When I run into any nasty stains, I use the “interior cleaner” that can be purchased from Griot’s.
I have some Wurth Rubber Care that I use for the door gaskets (the rubber door seals). Ok, I’m into overkill!
If the car is new, you shouldn't have to put anything on the dash and you don't want any reflections coming from it.
Here is the leather protector that I've had applied (I like the results), but I still need to get my own set:
Fiber-Shield Inc's, "Vicker's Leather Revitalizer". Part # FS405B.

e-mail: info@fiber_shield.com
Go to the detailing forum, and there are some links at the top of the forum that you can go to for detailing help/info, etc.

BTW, whatever product you use, don't use too much on the leather. You should not use so much that it leaks down through the perforations; IMO, the least amount of product that gets the job done will give the best results..
Finally, if you are really “in to it”, get some free catalogs from: Griot’s, Classic Motoring Accessories, and Car Care Specialties Online (http://www.carcareonline.com/). They have tons of overlapping products for taking care of every surface in a car…

Sorry, couldn't resist... (I realize it was probably a spell-checker gone awry late at night)Seriously though- I remember somebody else also gave that 303 protectant a thumbs-up a while back. I'm going to get a bottle to try. Thanks for the recommendation and the other great info. You should be the mod of the Detailing forum with your knowledge (in addition to the transmission forum).

Don't want to end up as a " religious dash bigot" even though I refuse to allow the Feng Shui folks to put a wind chine on the hood, a stream in the dash, or a mirror above my head.

Even wonder what Acura is doing for the "replacement" transmissions, well, guess no further, the picture says it all:

I can recommend Pinnacle leather/vinyl cleaner and Pinnacle vinyl/rubber protectant. The cleaner seems to do a nice job of removing dirt. I really like the proctectant. It does a great job of not attracting dust. I used to use some type of Zymol protectant and within a week a lot of dust would accumulate on the dash. I applied the protectant to my dash a little more than 3 weeks ago and I'm just starting to see some dust on the dash. It gives the vinyl dash parts a nice healthy shine. It has a nice coconut smell as well.
I like using the 303 protectant on the black plastic pieces throughout the dash. It gives it a clean look. I've tried it on the vinyl dash, but didn't care for the shine it gave. The 303 gives more of a matte finish on vinyl compared to the Pinnacle protectant.

Type S Dragon, I don't think I will be attending the meet yet. I have finals and lots of school stuff to finish, I will probably be at the nest one. Thank you everyone for your responses! Have a wonderful day!
