Depends if he has any mods.... otherwise it will be close. If he is stock i think he will have the edge. 0-60 5.9 1/4 14.6 mt

You'll take him off the line, likely take him all the way. The RX8 doesn't have any power unlesss it's at high RPM. Most RX8 drivers don't know how to drive them to get the power.

With headers and CAI I raced one last summer on the road : I was side by side with one and the guy decided to floor it for no particular reason it seems so I did the same just to see how I would do. He was already 3 car lenghts ahead of me when I floored it, but man, I just zoomed right by him so I guess it was an auto. I was very unimpressed...

If from a stop...

An RX-8 has to dump the clutch from about 6K+ RPM to get a good launch. Most owners wouldn't do that to their car.

I'd say, you'll take him. Just go ahead and race, for fun.

CL > RX-8.... omg the automatics are slow as HELL... i test drove one ehhh they handle amazing though... cause of the way they have the engine mounted centered of the car for a good weight balance...

post the results after, im curious to know. im thinkin the rx-8 will win. rx-8= rear wheel drive, 232hp @9000rpm broader powerband, limited slip, 6sp, lighter. cl-s= longer, heavier, automatic 5sp, no limited slip, front wheel drive, 260hp @6100rpm.

I raced one on the highway once. I had two passengers. He had one.

60-120mph roll-on.

I took him by probably 5-6 carlengths, I don't know really, he was too far behind for me to count.

I don't know if he was automatic or not, but it was really a shame. Good guy, gave a thumbs up.

P.S. This was in my old CLS-6.

check out that rx8 torque curve though. you gotta rev rotaries to the moon to get power from them.

rx-8 has Torque: 159 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 5500 rpm
3.2cls has Torque: 232 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 3500 rpm

you are right, the cls has alot more torque at a lower rpm, however we cant just come to a conclusion based on these assumptions, alot of factors come into play.

Take a look at the s2000:
s2000 has Torque: 153 ft-lbs. Max Torque: 7500 rpm,
clearly, torque is maxed at 7500, alot higher than the cls, and significantly lower torque, but which car is faster?

i have a question i have a 01 cl type s and ive been throw two tranis but like i have raced a rx-8 in the quarter mile and won by two car lenths... but my question is what does ur car or cars rev at in slapshift? the reason why i ask is cause my car seems to rev out at 8400 rpm's.. acura replaced the computer but it still does it does any one have a answer. but i think u should win that race. if u shif between 6200 and 6500 rpm's u will take him.. this is where the power starts to die down... if u do race good luck

haah s2000 is much lighter than the CL-S and is built as a performance car not a luxury coupe like ours...

anyway i know for a fact...

auto vs auto

CL-S > RX-8

id put money on the CL only if it were one of those under powered RX-8's Madza so called lied about, otherwise that would be a risky bet.

It was all of them, Mazda just lowered the advertised power output of the car.

Just about all the RX8 reviews I have seen list a 0-60 in 5.9 seconds (six speed). So, a CLS6 should be a very close race.

You probably have to drop the clutch at 6k rpms though to get that time in the Mazda!

I remember reading about it in one of the car magazines. The cars tested signigigantly lower in hp than what mazda claimed. And the manual sucks because its only 190something hp, compared to 238 for manual, but its still not that fast. Ive seen the times on it and was unimpressed for a car of $27k, but don't remember what they were
