CL-S VS Porsche

i was going home from Magic Mountain, and i was on the street right next to the freeway and i pull up to a stop light right next to a porsche boxster with the top down. When i was admiring his car i guess he thought i wanted to race. so he revs his engine and starts to inch up. so i figure why not ? When the light changed to green i floored it and before i knew it his front bumber was right next to my rear bumper and that was when i had to get onto the freeway so i slowed down and he went flying by me. i always thought porsches were fast ? but how come i won ? do you think that guy was not really trying to race ? my car is auto with headers

Boxsters are as quick as our car for sure. Depends on if it was a manual and if he was really racing, and if he was a good driver. I raced like a 97 M3 from 40-70 and beat him a couple weeks ago. Then again, I raced another similar M3 from a stop and he popped the clutch and tore me up!

when it comes to porsches, boxters arent really anything special. especially if it wasnt a boxter s. if he was driving any type of carrera or 911 it would have been a completely different story.

ya if it was just a boxer its not all that fast. a boxer S is the fast one. i was thinking the same thing when i came across one of the little boxer and he was really trying to keep up with me and all he was seeing was my tail lights. a boxer S i really haven't race one yet but im pretty sure he will get me.

for now

the boxster S weighs in under 500 lbs. compared to the CLS and has 280 bhp. it's 60 mph time is at 6 and a quarter, but i imagine that is a 6 spd. so that guy was either in a non type S or sucks at stick. i'd like to go up against one of those just to claim that i've beat on of the slowest Porsche's.

Side note, saw a Porsche GT3 today when we were heading towards the highway. Yellow one, looked nice and was fast. I was going 50 in a 35 and he was right on my ass, sped up and then cut in front of me in the I-70 highway turn lane. He really thought he was a badass, not him just the car. So, even though I was getting on the highway too, I knew the light takes forever. I went up to the next street, flipped a U and turned onto the highway right in frort of him while he was waiting for the light. It was extremely funny he looked so upset.

In a straight line the boxsters are not that impressive. The car was designed to be tossed around a tight track or an auto-x. You've gotta remember that not all cars are built to do all things. Our CLS's are decently quick straight-line cruisers. Modified, they handle pretty well for their weight. The boxster is also decently quick but handle very well right out of the box. With that said, they're still sloooooooow!

I thought the only performance difference was upgraded brakes and suspension for the boxster-s? I'm not sure about the newer models but thats how it was a couple of years ago.

the boxters dont really cost too much actually.. i would never buy one
average price is just around 35 grand.. for 35 grand you can get something way better, like a vette that will woop its ass big time

The regular Porsche Boxster runs mid to high 14's in the 1/4.

I saw one get beat off the line by a base model '94 Pontiac Bonneville.

moron, non s boxter its high 15s, from your words the cheapest porshe runs a bit sower than carrera 911 which is high to mid 13s depends on stick or auto. And boxster S might run mid 14s

You full of shit, base model Boneville is nothing impressive, peace of junk with 3.8l v6 and less than 200hp undr the hood, now if we talk about Boneville SSE which is a supercharged version with 240hp, than its a different story, those stock run 15s, so SSE might take a non S Boxster, but no way regular Boneville SE can't do it.

Bwahahaha! Don't tell me what I didn't see. I go to the track regularly and watched a regular Boxster pull high 14 second passes all night long. So they run high 15's because you looked it up on the internet?

One of his runs was against a base model Bonneville, which beat him off the line. I said I saw it happen. That's it... I didn't even say by how much and you're spouting off numbers you probably got off a google search.

Quit taking your numbers from Car and Driver.
SCC says the STi runs a 13.1 in the 1/4, when all the stock STi's I see run mid to high 13's. That isn't a small difference.

Stop bench racing and actually take your car to the track.

And don't even say you go to the track, because if you did, you'd know that cars rarely run what the magazines say they run. There's prepped and unprepped conditions, temperature differences and so on.
