So I wake up about 30 minutes early today and didn't realize it until I'm out of the shower. Shit, now what? Well, I decided to get an early jump on the morning commute.

I hop onto Alma School Rd. on my way to the back roads through the Indian Res. I come to the light where the 202 passes over Alma School Rd. and as I'm waiting a car pulls up to my right... he revs. I look over and see a silver Saturn. WTF? I look back at the light and ponder why the hell would a Saturn be revving at me? Light turns green and he smokes the tires and takes off all while I'm very slowly accellerating. Hmmmmmmmm.

He nearly avoids hitting a car turning off of the 202 onto Alma School by swerving over into my lane. What an ass. Okay, time to teach this guy a lesson. I go WOT and quickly close the huge gap he put on me and get over into the right lane. As I get over I realize it's a Redline by the ginormous wing and tiny little Redline badge on the back. He guns it as I go to pass him. I once again go WOT, too. I slowly pull on him but not nearly as much as I would've hoped. I over take him and right before the next light he gets behind me. Round 1 me.

I'm kind of still waking up at this point and didn't think to take my VSA off and when the light turns green I decide to gun it. Of course the CL bogs and doesn't get a good jump, so about 100 ft in he swerves over to the left lane and starts slowly pulling on me. There's traffic just up ahead and the two lanes merge into one, so I decide to get off of it and let him get in front of me seeing as I saw him almost cause an accident moments before. Round 2 him.

At the next light I'm sitting behind him and just trying to figure out if he's modded or not. He's got a license plate frame that says "Boost is Better" with a turbo logo on it, and besides the tiny rectangular Redline badge he's debadged. I'm thinking he's got at the very least an intake and chip, but who knows without talking to the guy. What are the chances he's taken off the stock supercharger and is now turbo'd? Made me wonder because of the frame, unless it's just advertising the stock SC boost? I never got a chance to roll down the window and ask him and I've never seen him before because I'm usually driving that road 30 minutes later.

It was fun having an early morning encounter though, and I was definitely impressed with how fast his car was, even though the huge wing isn't my style. Hopefully I'll wake up early another morning and see if maybe we can have a Round 3.

 

Yea had to have something aftermarket on that because there is no way stock he should have kept up with you (even though they are only 2962 lbs) I walked on a stock Cobalt SS (Ion Redline cousin) on the freeway when I was stock. Given your mods you should have killed him. I am anxiously waiting to see round 3. I'll guess now and say you will take him.

Yeah, should be interesting to see if I run into him again... if I ever get up early again!

I checked out the mag stock numbers on them and they run mid to low 6 second 0-60s and mid 14's in the 1/4 mile, so that's pretty much around where I should be with my mods, so it makes me wonder if he's modded at all now.

 

I can run 0-60 in 6.3-6.4 (SS) with just my intake so with your mods you should pull way harder than me. Yea it will be close for you and him but I still think top end you would def. beat him if he is stock. If you do meet up with him again and race def. try and find out if he's chipped or anything.

If I see him again I'm going to try to ask him if he's got any mods at all, just to see where we would stand if there was a Round 3. I agree, top end I think I'd run him down, it's the first half of the race that I'd be worried about.

Well whatever he had dones't matter,thoes cars are a disgrace anyways, and in the top end I will bet the CLS will outrun em hands down. I see them all the time they sort of look like a pontiac solstice or whatever thoes new tiny coups are, and I work with this guy who has one and I heard him leavin one day and he had a turbo on it for sure. What are the specs for thoes cars anyways??

I think you're getting the Saturn Ion Redline and Sky Redline confused. The Sky is the Solstice cousin and the Ion is the Cobalt cousin. Same platforms/engines as the Pontiacs just different sheet metal.

I agree, I'm not a Saturn fan and would never buy one, but to say they are a disgrace isn't really saying, well, anything. They are still pretty quick cars. The Ion runs mid-14's and the Sky runs 13's, so either one is worthy of an encounter in my book.

Plus there's a huge aftermarket support for the Cobalt SS/Ion Redline's. A bolt on or two can easily make it a 13 second car.

 

My buddy raced a Cobalt SS in my car (I wasn't with him at the time), he said the CL walked it as soon as he shifted to second gear. I would rather have a Cobalt or Pontiac than a Saturn - actually I would rather have a boosted H/A!

As far as off the line, since you have the slushbox and he has the manual+boost, I wouldn't bet on it. Anything can happen though - in my 6MT 230hp Legend coupe I beat a Camaro Z28 (100hp/tq on me) from 0-40 with a perfect 3500rpm launch. He had a pretty good launch too btw.
