CL-S vs. G35C - Semi Highway Runs

This happened over the weekend, and I really didn't see the need to post it, but fuck it, this is what forums are for.

I'm merging onto the tollway right where it begins... nothing but free open highway...I look in my rearview to see a black G35 tailing my ass. I drop it into 3rd at about 70 and burn the fuck out. I can tell he hits it too, but I'm constantly pulling away. I quickly come up on traffic going about 115, and he finally catches back up.

He circles onto my right to pass me in traffic. I didn't have to, but I let him in front of me just so we could get a good run once things opened up. I guess he thought he was Mr. Big Shit since I let him in. We're waiting for an open spot, he finally gets it, darts out into the middle lane and hits it, naturally I follow. Due to traffic, I don't have the room to get on either side of him, all I can do is trail. I kept getting right up on his bumper and I had to let off the gas to keep from runnin his ass over. He was really no match from 70 - ~110...

He soon exited, had I known he was gonna jump off the freeway, I would have followed for a good race. By the time I realized what he was doing, it was too late to get over.

Side Note: On the way to work this morning, I think I saw him pulled over by a state trooper. Point being, , he stays in the area, and apparently likes to drive fast, so I'm sure we'll meet again.

He stated G35C in the subject and it sounds like the guy is just trying to breakin the G35C.

Then those headers are pretty impressive seeing as they add about 20hp & 38lb-ft to the CLS/TLS' stock 260hp/232lb-ft.

acctually they add 25 whp and extend the torque curve a good 2K rpms ..you obviously dont alot about this car a G35c is not hard to beat against a CL-S 6mt headers and intake

From what I'm seeing, his CLS (automatic tranny) runs a 14.5 @ 96.12 WITH headers, intake and plugs (for whatever thats worth). A 6mt G35C runs only a bit quicker stock (14.2 or 14.3 vs 14.5) BUT traps about 4mph faster. (Incidentally, this translates to his CLS probably running to 130mph in about 33 seconds vs the G35C hitting that same speed in about 27 seconds)

Although I "obviously dont (know) alot about this car", my rationale is that the G35C still runs somewhat harder at the 70-110 range than the I/H CLS auto. (again, assuming the G35C was a 6MT)

However, I'd be curious to know whether or not that G35C was auto or 6MT; if it was automatic, I'd have no problem believing Mantis' kill.

Just my $.02.

Peace.

well i'll give you a comparison. I beat a g35C 6spd 4 times...once from a stop 3 from a roll. I have a 6spd with intake, exhaust, headers, and a drop (and plugs but those dont do much). And when i say i beat him from a roll we started at 40 and stopped at about 85 and i was good car and a half in front of him. I'm sure iwth a better driver he'd be closer. From a stop we went up to about 70 and he was about a car behind also. So stock for stock that car has us.

you're taking his run from a semi common G35C run...not the same thing...we have auto's same setup that have gone 14.2...you see here's the thing peak hp and torque ratings arent the key...it's area under the curve /weight/drag/driver...the G makes more power stock, but it falss of quick even more so does the torque...the CL-S however has a very flat torque curve allowing it to pull all the way past redline to the fuel cut at 7200 rpms...6mt/6mt id say is a drivers race advantage G...add headers /intake to the CL and it will win more times than it looses and acctually 70-113 on an auto is very strong

not trying to make excuses here, but the track I got those numbers at isn't maintained for shit... traction = 0, but its the closest, reasonable 1320 near me. Might head to the dreaded 1/8 mi track Fri... but they've got better track conditions, and i want to see what my 60' can _really_ be.

Tracks have too many factors that can adversely affect E/Ts.

Yup, once you guys get mods.....it is a pretty hard fight. Hopefully they will be coming out with some 'decent' mods for the G. The ATI Prochargers is looking pretty good, but for $5500, it is a little expensive for 360 RWHP!!

Oh yeah... The one thing I love about the G is how I don't have to downshift to pass. As all of the auto CLS owners know, 4th and fifth gears are poop. I'm sure the CLS6spd is a much different beast. I haven't driven one of those at century+ speeds...

Looks like the questions were answered for me. As for top end, I haven't driven the CL that fast, but the pull of the G in 3rd gear is amazing, and then it just keeps going and going. There is this cut off on the highway near me that runs parallel to it but there is only one entrance (the way I come on). It runs about 3/8 of a mile next to the highway. I jump off on it occasionally from the highway 60 mph and gun it. I can usually get up to about 120-130 by the time I can enter back on the highway (though I slow down to a safer speed). I had a mustang before this and I could probably only get up to 110 on that same stretch. The mustang did 14.1 @ 98 mph in the 1/4 while the G did 14.0 @ 101 in the quarter....and keeps on pulling!!!!

100mph and beyond for cl-s 6spd

recently drove my cl-s 6spd w/navi to texas. highly recomended for long drives.
i have never been up against a g35c but i have been up against
some other strong cars from 100 on.
bmw 540i all i could do was hang with him but i was impressed w/my car I thought he was gonna kick my ass.
this was even harder for me to believe when I went up against an 2000+ ss camaro. it was about 1am the camaro was in the fast lane doing about 70. i went around him in a normal fashion not instigating. i geuss a japanese car passing him was more than he could handle. i was about 3 car lengths ahead when he punched it. i dropped it from 6th to 4th and it was on. the camaro
climbed all over me catching up to my rear bumper but as my tach reached about 6000rpm in 4th gear he could no longer pull me in fact i was inching my way up. at redline in 4th i let off i'm sure in 5th his 325hp would have overtaken me.
had a similar encounter with new turbo volvo in the middle of the
New Mexico dessert. he kept messing with me for 50 miles and the same thing happened, he got his ass handed to him.
actually redlined my cl-s in 5th gear!!! the volvo was about a football field and a hailf behind me( I had to make my point so he'd go away
