CL-S VS auto 97 or 98 540

i raced a bmw 540 last night, he beat me by over half a car, it was auto too, AND he had his snow tires on while i have my stock tires. i was so pissed, its my friends 97 or 98 540..i was so pissed cause i kept telling him that i would stay beside him or beat him...neither of us have any mods.

i was NOT on SS, and VSA was on, cause it was raining a bit and the ground was wet,

i also think that a lot of these stories of Stock CL-S's beating all these cars are a little exagerated.

i remember reading that a memer KILLED a 6-speed new 540

this was a auto race, both just floored it, so please no comments that i dont know how to drive, or whatever.
i wasnt that pissed, cause we picked up some deadly girls last night

can someone explain this?..for some reason, i dont care though..what the hell is wrong with me?

I guess this is no surprise to anyone that first that the 540 is 8-Cylinders and it is 4.4L. If I am correct the 540i will pull some 6-6.1 sec flat. Still faster than CLS Stock.

Here is the spec for the 540:
540 models are powered by a 4.4-liter V8. This twin-cam four-valve design with the variable valve setup generates 282 horsepower and 324 pounds-feet of torque.

------------------
Black, Ebony, 3.2 CL Type-S, NAV.
- 3M clear bra, by Stonguard (full front bumper, and side mirros, and partial hood)
- Acura Spoiler, Moonroof visor
- Splash guards, Winter mats, Trunk liner
- Valentine V1 Radar Locator
- HELMS Service Manual
- PIAA 19168 road lamps
- 03/19/01: Injen Polished CAI
- 04/10/01: 235/40/18 NITTO 555 on 18x7.5 Koing Imagine in Silver with wheels locks

i totally agree. when people say that they dusted a gs 400 or smoked a stang cobra, they're not really pulling on that car. either the other person doesn't know how to drive or they're not really racing you. don't expect to beat a car that boasts better performance than yours, it's that simple.

yeah but he had cheesy winter tires on!! and i had my stock tires

i also forgot to mention his car had 4 people in it, and i was with a friend...to make things even more bad, my gas was on low, so i wasnt even heavy..i dont want to race him again when he gets his summer tires on, cause that would just really get to me.

and how is it that i have read like 5 times that people have killed 540's? even the 6-speed i read people here have killed, this really makes me worry that my car has something wrong with it.

you and your friend should settle this at the tracks. compare your times with the magazine times, then you'll know if something's wrong.

The best is to take a 540 and CLS to the Strip and you will see that we can not beat a 540, That thing is at least $47K com'on that is $15,000 more than CLS give BMW some credit. How many times that I have to repeat this CLS is not a Corvette, not a Ferrari, not a Porshe.... It is just nice CLS for the money.

For anyone who boast that my CLS killed this, smashed that, I would say let see you at the drag Strip.

Please, people let us a bit realistic not kids.

Enjoy your CLS.

Having owned a 1997 BMW 540iA prior to owning my current Cl-S, let me say that the CL-S is not going to beat a 540 in any kind of race. Close, yes!! But beat, NO. Dust, NO. Kill, definitely NOT. The V-8 in the 540 has a shit-pile of torque that we don't have. Both are great cars, but I wouldn't go around trying to "kill" one. Just my experience.

Don't be so disappointed. For one thing the 540 is a better car and another I think those conditions sucks. Get a CAI and try again (in the summer)

I rolled a GS400 and a 540i out of lease and a CLS and 330i in, in November. The CLS and the 330i will not out run the V8s. I have trouble believing that you did as well as you did. Don't feel bad, you wouldn't have been within 3 car lengths of mine, as mine are not. 5.7@99 vs 6.4? @95 = 100ft. 1mph=1.4ft/sec.
