CL-S v. 540i

Hey guys, did a few runs against my buddy last night, and i was surprised with the outcome. I have a CL-S 6M and he was driving a 99 540i 6M as well. we were doing some highway rolls from around 90km/h and each time (ran about 3 times) we would stay side by side till i hit 4th, and then i would barely, like inch, away from him and the faster the farther away i would get. i was very surprised as i thought he would dust me. I think it would prolly be a bit of a different story if we raced off the line, but i figured id let you know anyhow.

Our plan for this summer is to line up the 540, my car, and my friends 99 mustang GT convertable and see whos the quickest. any ideas on the winner? i kinda figure ill be near the back of the pack if we go from a dig, but who knows, especially after how i did against the BMW.

Nice kill! The mustang if its a 5spd and the BMW are capable of 14.2-14.5's and you stock are around a 14.4-14.5 so its definantly a drivers race. Like you said from a dig will be your challenge but up top you will hang with them. Those GT's do not trap over 99MPH stock. I have seen a couple 540i's at the track running consitant 14.4@97MPH.

Thanks for the input, the stang is a 5spd and the can drive it really well too, so it should be a good race. My buddy with the stang, his father has a new Saab 9-3 Aero, and i took it for a rip the other day, it moved pretty quick too, would that car be a contender in a race such as this?

And speaking of 1/4 mile times, a friend ran a 14.2x in a GSR Hatch, and when we raced we were side by side through 3rd where i started to walk away.

bmws are line hogs, if you can hang with him till mid range you just may have a shot. As for the GT, you both will run him.

Here's the numbers I found on said cars:

1999 Ford Mustang GT Convertible: 6.2 14.6
1998 BMW 540i Sport 5.5 14.0

I wouldn't write that 'Stang off just yet since if he really knows how to drive he could smack you around off the line with his torque. The beemer should be even quicker. That's on paper though so it all comes down to the actual real life race. Keep us posted!
