CL-S P2R Plenum Install POINTERS

So I just got these puppies in the mail and I am just dying to get them on my car!

I want to clean them up first either paint or polish them but I'm still debating just tossing them on.

I know I need a tq wrench But i don't know any of the TQ specs nor do I know exactly how to dismount the manifold.

From my understanding it's the internal bolts located underneath the center manifold cover, 10 I think?

However I don't know JACK about how my to torque down anything.

A diagram or anything for that matter would be a BIG help to me. Can anyone please point out wtf I need to know.?

A good snap-on clicker torque wrench on 1/2 or 3/8 drive is going to set you back a couple hundred bucks. You can pickup a cheap bender torque wrench at the autoparts store for less than 20 - just requires you to use restraint when bolting vs just rockin out and the wrench stopping you when it's tight enough - and isn't necessarily as accurate. If a friend has a clicker - I'd borrow one.

Once you pop the top cover off the intake manifold, which are all surface 10mm nuts and bolts, you'll see pretty clearly what needs to be unbolted inside. Watch all the vac hoses and sensors, don't drop anything on your throttle body map or tps sensor, and for GOD SAKES, don't drop anything down the intake ports.

Have a clean cloth or towel on hand to cover up the intake ports when you remove the manifold. Also get one of those telescopic magnet things. It makes picking up dropped bolts so much easier.

I got my craftsmen tq wrench at sears for around $40-50. Once you get the 10mm bolts off the top cover, you'll see the gold bolts and nuts holding the manifold on.

The top cover gets tightened to 8ft-lbs, the manifold to 16ft-lbs and Ill have to look at the service manual for the plenums. Get a new gasket for the manifold, top cover, and TB.

When removing the IMRC cable, unbolt the bracket that holds the cable to the manifold, then swing the cable foward so you can slide it out. Its pretty straight-foward, just DO NOT drop anything down the intake ports.

Also, now is a good time to clean your EGR port.

why are the gaskets going to break apart like the tb gasket does?

If not I'm gonna pass on getting new gaskets as I have simply spent toooo much $$$ recently on this car.

Specially cause of those 200 brake pads.

They are metal gaskets, but its just insurance. The gasket is $12 at Honda.

Ive never re-used the metal gaskets (or any gasket for that mater) so it may leak.

I wouldn't cheap out for the gaskets, if you end up having a leak later on it you'll have to redo the work

I never replaced gaskets. The plenums have been on my car like a year with zero issues.
Having a long extended magnet wand is a BIG help. I dropped a bolt into the lower intake holes when I put mine on. Would never have got it out if I didn't have 1.
Keep an eye out on the extended vacuum tubes you will need for the connections at the back right side of the manifold. My kit didn't have long enough ones.
You will have a little oil pooled in the manifold. This is normal. Just clean it out.
Be very careful threading the new studs in. Very easy to cross thread them.
Other then that's is pretty basic. I didn't use a TQ wrench. Just use the bolt tightening sequence in the service manual. Tighten till tight then give a 1/4 turn.

K so I don't neeeed a tq wrench, nor manifold gasket. What about the plenum gaskets?

Did everyone using these plenums need to get more tubing for the rear plenum? Or will I be able to get enough slack?

how long does this installation take?

A few hours. You reuse the plenum gaskets. Those are the metal ones.

You may still need a manifold & TB gasket. IDK what condition yours are in. Mine were fine so I reused them.

Ive seen a few TB gaskets stay in one piece, but for the most part those stupid paper gaskets just disintegrate once I seperate the TB from the mani.

YESSSS got it on in 1 hr and 20 mins I SHIT U NOT.

I just unbolted the throttle body and left it there to save me some moving around and extra work. I used a regulla alan key for the plenum bolts and it was a shorty so I couldn't put too much tq on it.
Used all the original gaskets and didn't even clean anything lol. I had NO time, I needed to eat my nono's PASTA. So yea everything works amazing.

Idle is perfect, everything is golden. I cannot beleve how fast I did it all in. Record timing boyz!

No tq wrench either and still turned out beauties

Thanks for ur pointers boyz

So you got them put on - now do they do anything? Contemplating getting the P2R polished lower runners and buying a new manifold to send out for PnP, plus the plenums - if it will all net me 20+ hp across the powerband.....

the car pulls harder overall. It's not like an intake where u feel more pull at the end. Mind you I haven't ripped it much at all. I have been busy working and working on other cars n shyt. Bro's car is next.

If you look at the dyno graph of the Plenums on the 01 CL-S it feels just like the graph shows. More tq low end, and increased overall power band definately. It squealed going from 1st to 2nd at WOT so there's definatley more power. But there is no one point of gain that is noticeable. It's like the whole motor just has more juice to give.

And it looks oh so MEAN. It looks like it won't even clear the hood!!! BALLIN

The dyno graph they give is with ported runners, which you don't have, so your numbers will be a bit lower. You need some headers to really get their full potential i think...

and I totally agree.

I have all intake mods so my exhaust is really dampening the power output.

I really want p2r headers though. Since buying their tb spacer and these plenums, their quality is second to none.

Plus they have the longest runners on the headers out of any company which means MORE POWER.

Anyone know if/when they will be available to be purchased?

That is my FAV MOD and I've been holding off till everything else is done cause when they go on they'll make even more of a difference cause of all the intake mods.

MMMMM yummmy

P2R Headers? They should find someone who already has the P2R spacer, gaskets, test pipe, an exhaust, an intake, and a low mile motor to test them........

K well if anyone knows how I can get my hands on a set I'd be in HEAVEN..

And BTW I got low miles on my car 59K to be exact. I wouldn't mind being the test dummie.

Either way headers and exhaust are NEXTT

Wow those plenums look nice! Curious does the p2r intake manifold gasket they sell work with their replacement plenums or is that for the stock intake manifold? Oh and does it add any performance using the gasket?

yea the gasket they sell goes between the head and the manifold so directly underneath the plenums. It'd all work just fine.

I opted not to get it cause in canada it gets cold and I didn't want it my motor to take longer to warm up on a frigid day.

And it doesn't really add hp it just adds hp on the dyno cause ur sitting still without air movement when ur dynoing. And even with a fan or 2 it's nothing comared to actually pushing through air while moving.

Can someone please tell me what the heck P2R Plenums are?? I asked this before and got no answer. Thanks........ I googled it and found the website. 650$ for those things seems like a big waste of money- thats quite costly.

Its #3 & 4 in this picture:

The P2R plenums are larger for more air flow. The same effect can be achieved using a spacer on the plenums and longer bolts.
