CL-S and our current gas crisis

BEST SOLUTION
Don't let the engine rev above 3,000 RPM for long periods of times.
In city, drive in automatic you should average 17 - 20mpg
In freeways, drive in automatic until your desired crusing speed is reached, then switch to sportstronic for passing power or engine braking. This should average you 25-30mpg easily.
Change spark plugs if you haven't already.
Take all the junk out of your trunk and reduce weight.
And that's about as good as it will get.

Had my 100k tuneup and damnnnnn son. Obvi new oil helps too, but the new spark plugs I think made a huge difference. Maybe the underdrive pulley too, but I just made a roundtrip from minneapolis to chicago and could make the whole thing on two fillups whereas before the tuneup it would have required like 2 and a half.
Is it me, or does every basic engine mod increase efficiency while it increases hp? i noticed a huge difference with my CAI, and now the pulley seems to have had the same effect. Bonus

Not sure since I also got plugs and oil at the same time - but it makes sense that you would see MPG improvements due to the pulley being lighter = engine doesn't have to work as hard.

everyone that says you cant afford the premium you shouldnt drive the car....try driving 600 miles/week. it gets expensive.

Those complaining need to just SUCK IT UP and quit complaining. We still have it better than alot and its only going to get worse.

Wow. i hope my mileage goes up with the 6mt tranny, intake, pulley, and headers that are going on my car. its funny when you do mass modding. you never know what really gave you the gain in power/mpg, you just know they all contributed somehow.

Assuming that we're talking about the S-type, high compression means need for higher octane fuel to prevent pre-detonation, leading to holes in your pistons. I believe our engine mgmt electronics backs-off the spark timing to compensate. I have mixed 87 & 91 at times but pinging does occur.

I just tried to fill up with 91 at a Shell station and no pumps had premium! WTF! So I atleast got 89. I also noticed new stickers on all pumps claiming "at least 10% ethanol"
