CL-S goes bye-bye!

We bought my wife a new Honda today and the dealer went nuts over the CL-S and offered to get me out of my lease. Of course, there's no VALUE left in these cars as many have commented before re: trade-in, but I did manage to get the residual pay-off, plus I won't owe $800+ in mileage overage, or have to get it inspected for turn in, or make my last payment of $546 AND I get my security deposit of $450 back. I'll be letting it go next Saturday.

We picked up a '02 5MT Civic Sedan EX in Titanium with the 5-spoke alloys and the 6-disc changer for $18,500. We actually test drove both the 127HP Civic 5MT and the 150 HP Accord 5MT and it was no contest. The Accord doesn't pull for shit, sounds like ass and has a vauge feel in the shifter with long-ass throws. My sweet wife actually saved me money by wanting the Civic over the Accord.

I've still got the Z on order, but might wait a year and pick up one of these instead in the interim.

Yes, it is coming over as the '02 GTI Driver's Edition and will be limited to only 1,000 units stickering at about $24K.

Sweet, little hatch

He got rid of a luxury sport coupe for a couple small, mid-range econo-cars.

I think his lease was up, hence the switch...

That is the problem with leasing. If you keep the car, it is like paying for it twice.

my 2 cents

Droid,

I still miss my Golf. Everytime I see one I want to have it back - what a great car. I say go for it cause I know you hate the CLS and to me, the Z looks like a cross between and TT and a porsche which looks wierd - to me..

And the nutty thing about the Golf platform is that its practical as hell.

Hehe... I expected the "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" from some of you. That's cool. *My* CL-S is an absolute, troublesome piece of shit and I'm glad that someone is willing to take it off my hands and relieve me of having to pay for the excess mileage. Did I already state what a LOSING PROPOSITION actually owning the car would be.

BTW, the *regular* '02 GTI 1.8T runs 6.5s 0-60 and 15.3 in the 1/4. The DE has light-weight 18" BBS RCs, Recaros, upgraded Eibach suspension and a 6-speed tranny. I expect it to be even faster and handle like a go-kart. Plus, a chip re-map and cat-back yield 220HP. Fuck luxury, I want to DRIVE. Oh yeah, and it's limited to 1,000 units. Hahaha... I'll actual make my money back when I sell it just 12 months later.

Droid, congrats bro! Your CL seemed to be from the bitchy batch anyway... gettin out of it clean an dry is nothing to be ashamed of.

That GTI is hot! But then again, put BBS RC's on anything and it will be hot

It ain't no Z tho. :P

In any case, its too bad ya werent happy with the CL... but it can please everyone... and you seem to want something more fun anyway. I can relate... But either way... Stick around!

I would rock the fuck out of either of your future cars!

Tell your wife congrats on the Civic. Post pics...

See if your school offers reading comprehension. I got the alloys and the 6-disc in-dash changer. I do not have to make my last lease payment nor do I have to pay for the overage on the miles (a savings of over $1350) and I get my $450 security deposit back on the CL-S lease.

The only detail I left out was that the $18.5 INLCUDES TT&L.

driodeka, I hope you the best of luck with your new cars. Does this mean that someday your GTI and my IS will finally duel for times on an track/autoX course?

Thanks, Soop! I can't tell you how relieved I am to make out on the CL-S like that. I was going to take a real 'ing on the mileage.

The CL-S was fun while it lasted (at least before all of my problems), but I seem to be having a mid-life crisis at 32. Being married I don't need a pimp car like the rest of you playas and just have to have something that I can throw the fuck around every corner I meet on the road. I live for driving these days no matter where I go and want to make the most of the experience, hence moving to a stick in either car.

I'll drive the GTI in April/May and see what's up. If it doesn't absolutely lay me to waste, I'll hold out for the Z and take my chances with another first-year model car. HOLY SHIT!!! Did I just say that? The only bad thing about waiting is that I have to drive my wife's old car ('96 Civic EX SLUSHBOX) till August. I want a new one NOW!

EDIT: And the best thing is... I can FINALLY stop bitching about my CL-S!

That's the reason I'm getting hyped up about it! I'm all over those Recaros. On paper it looks like a real ass-kicking corner carver, but only a deposit, first right of refusal and a test drive will be the way to tell. It could be a complete let down so I'm not putting it on a pedestal just yet.

Droid,

We'll miss you... I'll always remember your Taco Hell story...forever changed how I approach drive-thrus. Anyhow, there are a lot of fun affordable 'drivers' to choose from now - WRX, Lancer evolution (soon), RX8, RSX Type R (prob), as well as the new Z. My plan/hope in the next year: an S2000 to satisfy my urge for a real 'driver'

That's what I always liked about Astroboy. He's not some fucking newbie who doesn't have a goddamned clue about my miserable Acura ownership experience and always gave me the benefit of the doubt regardless how much I complained.

The list was:
1. IMRC Acuator x 2
2. Rotors machined x 2
3. Master Cylinder x 1
4. Brake pads on MY dime before the TSB x 1
5. Air Idle Valve x 1 (cost me 5 days for service to figure this one out)
6. Tranny x 1 (In shop for 27 days)

EDIT: Not saying you're a newbie, Blazin. It's just some members have no idea what a POS the car has the potential to be. Just like a few bad BMWs, there are, without a doubt, some lemon CLs floating around out there. THAT is what pissed me off the most. I DID NOT expect that from Honda and the CL-S was my third one.

I think I would have rather went thru 2 trannys than all that crap!
I had forgotten totally about your brake problems...what was the air vavle thing, i don't recall that incident droid...

Blazin, thanks for the props about my car
the IMRC is also called the bypass valve actuator...what it does is open up the secondary intake butterflies inside the intake manifold....several of us early CL owners had problems with them failing one more than one occasion....the worst being that it put our cars down almost 30HP and there is no way no know it's not working unless you manually check or if you get the car dyno'd.
