CL-S 6mt on the track
I'm tempted to run my bone stock CL-S 6mt on the track at an open lapping day, possibly BeaveRun or something more local.
Does anyone have any impressions of the stock CL-S on the track, even running the crappy Michelins? A buddy of mine took his mid-90's BMW (I think it's the 318, but not sure) and said it was a blast. Mind you his car is stock with not near as much power on tap, which he noted as a bit of a drawback. However, he was impressed with the handling and ability of the car up against the 7 or 8 other cars in his group. I'm thinking the CL will hold it's own?

But don't destroy your OEM brakes. Make sure you take a couple of cool-down laps after your run to help prevent warped rotors. And don't use you parking brake for a little while after coming to a stop.

Yeah, duly noted. The tires on my friend's BMW were at 150 degrees a few minutes after a run, and the brakes were up around 400 degrees.
Looks like the open-lapping days aren't until August, though. At least at BeaverRun.

Your stock tires & stock suspension is probably not going to make for an extremely fun day, imo. For serious corners the stock suspension just really has too much body roll and it will understeer pretty badly unless you know how to trail-brake.
Dont worry about your brakes. Just bleed them before you go and be prepared to replace the pads & rotors after the race day. People who road-race just accept the cost of replacing brakes. Like posted already dont apply your e-brake when you get back to the pits and in general just concentrate on driving smoothly, not trying to keep up with the Z06 in front of you.

Its usually not worth it to use expensive aftermarket rotors if you do alot of high stress racing on the stock brakes. I just bought the generic replacements from AutoZone and you get them replaced for free if they ever warp. Its kind of a PITA to keep changing brake parts, but unless you have the coin for hella expensive Baer's/Brembo's/Wilwood's (not ot mention the 18's you usually need to fit around them) then you're gonna have to keep replacing the pads/rotors often.
