Thumbs up CL-6 vs. Modded SRT-4

Let me start by saying, the SRT-4's when modded, are FAST! I had no idea this car was going to be this fast at all. Driving on route 202 last night we raced from a roll 3 separate times, and all 3 times, the CL-6 came out on top. The first race I pissed on him pretty good, he was 1.5-2 car lengths back. Then he seemed to get all pissed so I thought okay maybe he shifted wrong so we went again, this time I only won by a 1/2 a car length from 60 MPH to 120 MPH or so. Then the third time from a roll I spanked him pretty good. The car was louder than a stock SRT-4, but I'm not sure exactly what was done to it.

My mods are intake, XS headers, and exhaust.

I know this guy was shocked at how fast the CL is, though.

I wish I would have known too! It looked clean as hell for a Neon, I was really impressed. Blacked out everything, lowered, etc.

He must have just had an exhaust.. I was boosting 19 pounds on stock turbo and hitting 270 to the wheels, I was almost keeping up with 03 Cobras. SRTs weigh almost 600 pounds less than CLs. He must have been almost stock or had a major boost leak, but good kill nonetheless.

Oh yeah and I used to rape my buddy's auto CL-S, all bolt-ons, on the freeway, up to about 90ish it wasn't too bad (only a couple car lengths), but by about 120, I had a few buslengths on him.

The funny part is I ended up buying a CL-S 6MT, feels and looks like a "real" car, not just a plasticky toy car.

After looking into it a bit I'll have to agree with you! The SRT-4 must have had minimal mods, honestly. I had no idea how quick they were, damn.

yeah I posted something earlier in a dif thread...I raced one on the highway a week ago or so and the thing was fast as all get out. Heavily modded, but still impressed me - and beat me

I'll still take my Cl-S

Must have been a crap driver, or the power band, turbo spool up, & lag must be heavy at that speed you were doing. From a stop you would have had your ass handed to you. Stock they are high 13's.

That's why you gotta catch em on a roll

Speaking of SRT-4s tho. My best friend caught one with his stock S2000, a customer had an SRT-4. Bigger turbo, custom piping done by my friend, so he knows that car inside and out. But anywho. Took out that SRT-4 with his stock S2000. Ant they both know how to drive very well. My best friend is the one who taught me how to power shift so he's got skills...

Are you serious?...give the man some credit!
I would hope he knows the difference between an SRT-4 and a neon with a body kit...geez.
Plus if it was that close of a race with a Neon w/ a body kit (ha ha ha) I think he and all of us with CL-'s would sell them asap...(not likely bud)

And I agree with everyone above..Stock from a stop they are pretty fast (faster than us 0-60 for sure) I believe a 6er could take him though 50+ mph. Nice race Nice kill!
Try to find out what mods if any he's running if you meet him again.

You guys seriously need to get educated on SRT-4s. A big turbo SRT-4 would be pushing around 350+whp on pump gas, well I am talking about a 50 trim, but still even a modded stock turbo SRT-4 would put buslengths on a stock s2k on a highway run. Unless he had a major boost leak or a broken turbo, I don't see this happening

Seems like a lot of you have been running into SRT-4s lately, makes me miss mine

Eh they could have messed with the wastegate and the computer after a few runs pulls back bost down to ~11psi? Normally they boost arpound 14 I think and you can have them go up to 17 with some wastegate spring mods.

Just depends on how half ass they modded the car.

I'm definitely getting myself a UR crank pulley, no questions asked. That's my next mod, I really hope that's as noticeable as everyone says. And by the way the SRT-4 was definitely as SRT-4, no questions asked. It had the SRT-4 badge, SRT-4 mesh style wheels, etc. One of my friends has a blue SRT-4 I'm very familiar with them, and yes they have a TON of potential performance wise. But like most people say, at the end of the day it's still just a Neon.

most will probably run low 14s but w/a decent driver there are some running in the 13s. i'll find the vid of my friend (1st time at the track/couldn't launch to save his life-> 2.6 short times) and me racing at Carlsbad raceway. At the end of the day we got a race on tape. I trapped ~97-98 and he trapped 101 or 102 which would have put him solidly in the 13s. point being is that he's was pulling on me like a mutha in the 2nd 1/8 of the mile.

btw, who ever said that jeff gordon was a good drag racer?

yes it will because the target market was 20 somethings while the cl target market was much older group. i'd much rather have my cls for long trips and a srt4 as a project car.

I know seriously, hopefully once I S/C my CL-S with a HBP, it will be a much more even match.

I think you give the SRT-4 too much credit. that thing is fast but it's not a Ferrari. They raced from 0-80 and the srt4 was at the fender. then again on a curvy street from about 30-80, the S2000 took him out by a car. Maybe it was the driver, maybe it was the car. But he got smoked. End of story. I have no reason to lie about that. It's not even my car. SRT-4s are just overrated.
