Civic Si Should I?

I got 03 TL-S with Exhaust on it. My friend is getting Greedy turbo and greedy exhaust on his 2001 civic. His civic is like 123Hp now. 5 speed, the basic one. Would I be able to beat him? How much hp, should he be getting?

Thanks

US SI = Canadian SIR which is 160HP,
depending on how much hp/tq the turbo is putting out, it'll be a really close race. The Si/R is also a much lighter car so he'll probably have you on the launch, but depending on how long the race is you might be able to pull on him later.

Correction: there is NO 2001 CIVIC SI in the US. There's the 1999-2000 Civic SI in the coupe form, then next comes the 2002-2003 Civic Si or SIR in Canada.

So if you're sure it's a 2001 Civic, it's either the 115hp (dx,lx) or the 127vtec (ex). Then you can beat either of them EVEN if they have a greddy turbo - the D17 engine responds VERY bad with mods and the internals are very weak.

you'll smoke his ass... I had an EX civic back then and before I had a JRSC I had a greddy turbo. In the settings suggested that greddy turbo on a d16 was gay. 123 HP is weak sauce. Unless he's running at 2500 lbs or so you won't have a problem ripping him a new one.

Also, by you saying "the basic one" I'm figuring you're talking abouht barely 100 HP motors that honda has for their bare minimum... those are a joke.

o yeah, and even 123 HP at the wheels would calculateout to being somewhere around 165 HP at the crank at best. If you can beat a GSR Integra (which does't weigh that much more than a civic) then you should't have a problem with this car.

with the greddy turbo and exhaust and if he knows how to drive it should be a close race if you know how to drive but most likely hell beat you. turbo ownes you.!

It also depends on the size of the turbo he's putting in. If he's putting in a monster turbo and upgrading internals he'll smoke your ass, but if he's just putting in your garden variety ~100hp upgrade turbo and running mediocre boost levels you shouldn't have a problem. And noodle is right, those engines don't respond very well to Turbo'ing as they are made to go grab groceries and putt-putt them back home to the kiddies

How is he 123hp at the wheels? 2001 Civic only comes in dx, lx, ex form in the states, (ex = canadian si). The Vtec versions, w/ 127hp dyno around 111 hp at the wheels or less. You won't have a problem.
