Civic Si question

okay here's the deal( don't grill me cause it's just a SI not a CL)
This dude at work wants me to help him get parts for his 99 Si. he wants to crank about 225 hp.
he told me(stock) right now he's turning 160.
he doesn't wanna put A LOT of money into it( like 5 grand)
so I figured a Set of Apexi headers
Apexi cat back
Apexi Power Intake(not CAI) AEM power pulleys
now for all these parts was about 1200-1300 bucks with shipping
now the question is
#1 do you think he can pull about 225 hp out with that?
#2 Do you think this is a fair price for that stuff
#3 Any other suggestions(far as go rice parts)( and no not the bright red "H" symbol or stuff like that

naw, good question. I'm looking to purchase a project car for my brother. Civic Ex 5sp manual I'd be looking to do something similar.

You can get the Vortech SC kit and DC Sport headers installed for under $5K.

How would our stock CL-S run against one of these? My friend's supposed to have gotten his stuff installed, but I haven't checked it out yet.

they make a couple different turbo setup for those cars but turbos are high mantanice items on hondas due to the compersion ratio.

He made the funniest comment to me. He said yeah i can beat a stock Mustang GT automatic. I said put down the crack pipe and wake up . Cause if you can beat a GT with stock Si you need to be on the NHRA Import drags. He's while there there spinning tires trying to hitch up i'm half way down the 1/4 mile. I said once they hitch your gone. I said you might get them at 60 ft but far as 1/4 mile unless you have something crazy like NOS or a wild turbo your not gonna beat a GT with a Si.
I think probably the headers/pipe and that air induction is the way he'll go. Then he'll come in claiming he tore up at Supra.

He needs to make an additional 65 hp at the crank. Bolt-ons will not get him 65hp. Tell him to get the Jackson SC adn that'll be enough...and then he can get bolt-ons later...with all that....he might keep up with you...if you have headers and CAI...but then you spent a lot less than he did..

I used to own a 2000 Civic Si, and while they are respectable, I wouldn't claim to be beating Mustang GT's. Anyhow, back to the topic:

A JSRC will only give about 40 HP at the crank. A turbo setup will give the gains he wants, but he'll probably have to beef up the internals. IIRC, the B16A2 will only safely handle about 8-10 psi with stock internals.

You may want to pose this question in the Si/SiR forum of www.superhonda.org . There's plenty of folks there that'll point you in the right direction.

It's been awhile since I recall all the turbo discussions, but for the prelude 10 was the max before needing to beef up the internals.
Not sure about the civic, I'd agree to the 7-8psi. 10psi on a gen3 prelude SH got around 300hp to the wheels.

You gotta remember the 10psi on a Prelude is on a much stouter bottom end...the H22 is a good platform for FI. The b16 is made of aluminum foil....

I went with the 8-10 figure because there's people on the superhonda board who are running JRSC's with 8 and 10 psi pulleys. I just checked a thread and someone had mentioned that the 10psi setup is troublesome.

So... my bad. :p

Yea the psi figures get messed up cos 7psi on one turbo type is different then 7psi on another. I'd guess the same for S/C types too.

Don't even mess with the JRSC that think is shit. If he wants max power w/out going internal I'd go with the Drag Kit. If smog legality is an issue go with a greddy kit. You can go 7-9psi easily with the intercooled Drag setup.

for 5 grand? couldnt u rebuild the internals...then mebbe later put on the vortech sc...i think building the motor before forced induction would be the way to go...that way u can always push ur sc or turbo up a bit without too much to worry..
