CHEVROLET SS Concept

UNVEILED IN DETROIT
Concept: CHEVROLET SS
Wheelbase: 121 in.
Length: 198.9 in.
Width: 76 in.
Height: 53 in.
Engine: 6.0-liter V-8
Horsepower: 430
Estimated torque: 430 lbs.-ft

What the automaker says: "The SS features sophisticated low-arm SLA suspension and independent rear suspension for high-performance driving. The chassis features driver-adjustable shocks to change the damping ratio. The SS driver can tune the chassis for a softer setting during the week and dial in more performance for track days on the weekend. To complete the performance package, the brakes are six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors up front, and four-piston calipers with 14.75-inch rotors on the rear. To help make the SS friendlier for everyday driving, it also is equipped with active-traction control."

What you should know: Chevrolet makes a play for the cachet of its muscle-car days with the rear-wheel-drive SS, powered by a longitudinal all-aluminum 430-hp, 6.0-liter V-8. The four-door sports sedan seats five. "This is classic muscle car flavor interpreted in a modern way," said exterior designer Franz von Holzhausen. The engine is paired with a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. It also is compatible with Displacement on Demand technology. The SS features low-arm suspension and independent rear suspension. The chassis features driver-adjustable shocks to change the damping ratio. Drivers can tune the chassis for softer ride or performance.

The front reminds me of the RX8. Not bad overall though.

A lot of the stuff we see here from GM will be seen in one form or another in production models.

Overall, the car looks hot. Very distinct Ferrari tail lights. Not so keep on the exhaust in the body's bumper, or the interior.

Very nice, possibly a variant on the replacement for the Camaro? At least they are keeping that SS name alive. It's nice to see GM putting out cars that C/D would describe as "hairy-chested"

Very cool looking but it would have to be pretty expensive if they kept that engine in it. Even if a toned down version saw the light of day it would probably have a lot less hp.

is that 2 or 4 door?

its looks alright.....the front end is almost exactly like the SSRT which is ASS ugly IMO.

but comon now! that thing MIGHT get 12 mpg, with a 6 litre V8, the muscle is great and all, but there are other ways of making a fast car without tremendous displacement gas guzling engines.

I am sure it would have displacement on demand if it came out to help with the fuel economy

I like it for some reason, but they should just make it a coupe. And the interior looks like ass.
