Check engine light flashes 5 times at startup (Before crank)

And no it is not the maintence required light. If i turn the key but dont crank the light stays on for a few seconds than flashes 5 times and turns off. If i start it right away it wont flash. Ive had the car for awile, and i never noticed it until now. Is this Normal or is it throwing some sort of check engine code?

Readiness Codes? (Emission Control System)

Take a look in the 'Owner's Manual' for the section titled 'Malfunction Indicator Lamp'. It is on pg. 310 in my manual for the CLS-6. It states:
'This indicator comes on when you turn the ignition switch ON (II) and goes off after the engine starts. If it comes on at any other time, it indicates one of the engine's emissions control systems may have a problem.'

Furthermore, if you look on pg. 311 under the section 'Rediness Codes' it states the following:
'Your car has certian "readiness codes" that are part of the on-board diagnostics for the emissions systems. In some states, part of the emissions testing is to make sure these codes are set. If they are not set, the test cannot be completed. If your car's battery has been disconnected or gone dead, these codes are erased. It takes several days of driving under various conditions to set the codes again. If possible, do not take your car for a state emissions test until the readiness codes are set. To check if they are set, turn the ignition ON (II), but do not start the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.'

This is the only instance I can find in the Owners Manual that mentions anything in regards to a (5) blinking CEL at start up.

I have a S/C'd CLS-6 and the CEL always goes 'OFF' after 20 seconds or so, when the car is initially started. The CEL has never blinked 5 times at first start.

Therefore, per the book, it leads me to believe that this 'blinking (5) CEL at start-up' is related to the setting of the 'Readiness Codes' in regards to the emission system.

If it does not go away after awhile, then it may be advisable to visit the local 'stealership'.

Sorry for the long post, but that's all I could find.
Peace.

That must be it, because my car was just in the shop and they disconnected the battery. So i will wait for a bit to make sure the readiness codes are set, and if it keeps doing it, i will take it back to the dealer. Thanks!
