Changing Oil to Synthetic

Is it recommended I go with a blend this time and then use 100% Synthetic next time?

I'm getting a tranny flush for $180 at the dealer, and figure I'll get an oil change and start making the switch to synthetic at the same time.

for $ 180 flush they should be using a synthetic trans oil

Think I should get the flush done elsewhere or just suck up the $180 and have it done by Acura?

How many quarts of Amsoil Synthetic ATF do I need for 01 TypeS? What filter do you recommend? I want to learn more about this..

Thanks for the help.

That's sounds a bit expensive...

You might want to consider the synthetic ATF carefully...

I'm not telling you not to. I'm just telling you that I've nosed around other Honda forums, and they have used combos of Honda ATF + other synthetics to keep a little bit of some key additives in the slushbox. That being said, Comptech just tosses Redline Synthetic ATF in their slushboxes (or so they claim).

So, I don't know if you're going to find anyone that has a lot of experience with the current tranny combined with pure synthetic over the long term.

If do decide to run the Amsoil Synthetic, please report in from time to time.

From all my years of racing hondas i have found there trannys to be tempermental with regards to fluids. I would seriously consider doing a flush and changing the filter but going to oem honda oil instead of synthetic. Just an example i blew two trannys running redline through them, mind you these were manuals. Beware, the advantage is not worth the cost, even if there really is a huge advantage.

Well I'm sold on changing the tranny fluid ... But $180 sounds pricey... I'm not sure what to do.. I'll probably just suck it up

the flush for our trans is

1) drain and fill with two qts,, run for five minutes switching between gears..
2) repeat 1) two more times, the last fill is 2.7 qts.

any lube joint can do this,, my local place charged me $ 20. I brought in the amsoil oil fluid... takes nine qts at about $8 per qt.

now I just drain and fill once every 15k miles,,, once you have 100% synthetic a complete flush is not necessary......

I have about 10k miles on the present fill... and about 60k miles on the car...

Amsoil is in it for the long term mileage person,,thats how they test it
