Changing oil on a "dropped" CL?

Any of you change your own oil? I plan to install Comptech Springs and I was wondering the best way to get under the car?

Do you guys drive up ramps. If so, any risk of scraping that front spoiler seeing it's lower than stock?

I suction the oil out through the dipstick chute with an oil extractor purchased from Griots Garage. I know that others have found similar liquid extractor devices at boat/marine stores such as West Marine for a bit cheaper.

I don't have to remove or re-torque the drain bolt. I don't have to jack up the car. The device works and is quite easy to use.

The oil filter is very easy to access through the right wheel well when the steering is turned all the way to the right.

Awesome. That sounds too easy. What about the washer that sits between the drain bolt? Any chance that will dry out over time?

The crush washer is metal.

Yes, it may 'dry out' in about 200 years.

Do a search. I reviewed the Griot product some time ago. I know that the same thread included links to other manufacturers of the boat oriented products which were $10-20 cheaper (I think it was Bluto that reviewed one of those).

With Comptech springs you may need to drive the front passenger side wheel onto a 2 X 6 to get the oil pan under the car/filter. Use a 1" block (or 3/4" plywood) before the 2 X 6 to make a ramp.

Low profile ramps are in there... item 10142

shipping will probably kill ya, so I suggest you look locally as well.

Why is it so difficult to jack up the car?? Is it so low that you can't fit a jack underneath it? What will you do if get a flat and need to change the tire?

Just curious. This doesn't seem like a big deal, that's all.

Not a big deal, but unnecessary for an oil change.

To be safest, I would use jackstands when working under the car. IMO, the included scissors jack isn't safe enough for undercar work.

Well, I use a jack as noted above... however, I'd never use the Acura jack... that's just nuts. I use a 1-ton jack.... lift it a little bit... get under the car and change the oil. Doesn't take more then 15 min. or so... and 13 min. is spent letting the oil drain.....

I don't use jack stands since I don't have to jack the car up much at all. My garage kind of dips in the center b/c there's a drain.... so I just have to jack it up a very little but to get under the car (I'm also a pretty small guy).

I put the jack on the metal supports near the driver side front wheel. Couple of pumps to jack it up... change the oil and that's it!

With the high ground clearance for a stock CL can the oil be drained in a pan with jacking up the car? I assume the filter can be changed from the wheel well.

I'm too far away to go to an Acura dealer (will do for Majors though). I don't trust anyone else (like Jiffy Lube and others) as they tend to leave oil all over your car interior and rip apart your engine to show you a dirty air filter.

Laying on the ground and removing the drain bolt is not easy (I tried it). Unless you have long arms.

Are those sand bags under the 2x6's? Where is is safe to position the jack to lift both sides of the front and rear end?

It looks like you have the front end pushed into the wall. What do you have holding the front wheels in place, besides the brake.
