I believe there is not enough clearance on the "S" for chains. You could probably expect a lot more damage than scratched rims if you try to use 'em. Have you considered a good set of Blizzaks? Mine work great on 16" Alloys.

why not? It looks like there is more than enough room for the chains to fit.

You didn't read the entire manual ! NO CHAINS OF ANY KIND ON THE TYPE S ! Read your manual. Rent a car, don't fu$k up your CLS !

Actually Fabvsix, if you re-read your manual, you'll notice that chains are o.k. as long as you use a specific rating or something. The only way I know is that I have chains for my CLS, just have never used them. Chains rattle the hell out of a car - sounds horrible! I tried them on so to speak before I was supposed to drive all the guys up the hill to snowboard and decided my car was not meant to be in those kind of conditions if I could avoid it. By the way the chains that will work are called Z-Chains and they're the cable type with a diagonal pattern to minimize the bump and increase traction. FYI...

When I purchased the CL, I was forced to sign a form the acknowledged that chains were not to be used on the car. however, the use of cable's were acceptable according to my salesman. If your worried about damage to your rims, just be sure to install them correctly.

Dude, do not put chains on Your Type-S. Read the owners manual again.

I don't need to go to the snow (at least right now). However, I am getting ready to call Acura Care again to get the final word on cables (not chains) for snow use.

Has anyone contacted Acura Care regarding the use of cables (not chains) for our car. There are times when the CHP demands that cars in CAL have chains/cables even if they have 4wheel drive *and* snow tires!

Re the CHP note: My mom just made a trip across 80 and 395 in her Jeep and in one situation she needed cables with her full time 4wheel drive and M&S tires!!!!!
