CEL after rev limiter bounce

I was accelerating onto the freeway tonight and I was in Sportshift in 2nd gear. I went to merge and floored it so I could get up to speed and I wasn't paying attention and I heard/felt the rev limiter kick it so I upshifted right away and then put it in Auto. Right after that the CEL light that looks like a little box started flashing about 6-7 times and then it stopped and went away.

I drove home about 20 miles and car felt fine but I'm still worried. Should I be concerned or was the car just pissed that I hit the rev limiter?

You should be fine. Bouncing against the rev limiter shouldn't hurt anything and the light went away.

As you say, car is driving fine and no lights on. The CEL looks like an engine if I'm correct too.

Probably just signaled an over-rev, or mis-fire code.

or high revving engine speed code...that needs to be cleared if you still have a warranty.

Probably a misfire code. I used to have that happen when I was supercharged in my '02 CL-S.

If the light is no longer on you're fine. Just pay closer attention

You sure it wasnt the vsa flashing? Maybe you hit a bump that you didnt know of? I have hit the limiter before too on accident and nothing happens.

If the cel light came on after hitting the revlimiter and it just flashed a few times it was most likely what mrsteve sad about it just being the misfire code. If the light didnt stay on i wouldnt worry about anything

No it was definitely the CEL. Actually I'd never seen the CEL before and my first thought when I saw the icon on the flashing light was that it looked like a water pump light until I checked my manual.

in that case, make a quick stop at an Autozone and borrow their OBD scanner.

There won't be a code stored. Not worth the time to drive over there.

It used to happen all the time in my old CL-S. It'd shoot flames out the exhaust too. Although my car wasn't exactly stock...

i read something on sportshift to where you know how it automtically shifts between 1 and 2 the ecu or some other onbaord mechanic will prevent the sportshift for overreving or redlining so if you were in 5 it would not let you down shift to 2 and if you were in 2 it would up shift to 3 if you began to redline

well a professional auto shop or acura dealer will be able to pull the soft code, but a crappy obd scanner from autozone will generally only pull hard codes

anyway, it was probly just a misfire.

The ECU was detecting misfires because you were at the rpm limit & didn't have traction. Also happens with excessive wheel hop. Completely normal on the auto. I've been able to do it many times on auto's. Nothing to worry about.
And when it flashes it's a temporary code & is only stored until you turn off the engine. Once the car cycles again it's gone.
