My stock cat is clogged up and throwing codes so it's time to replace it.

I'm contemplating getting a XLR8 hi-flow, but shipping costs to Canada is hefty. I have a chance to pick up a new Magnaflow universal cat for dirt cheap locally, the only kicker is that it's a 2" inlet/outlet and as far as I know our stock cats are 2.25" in diameter.

Would this cat fit, and if it does would it negatively affect my car's performance?

I had a magnaflow universal. 2.5 in/out cat and it threw a code after a few months of use and barely passed emissions. (numbers were bang on the limit)
I'd go oem cat.

What I'm trying to find out is if the smaller diameter of this universal magnaflow will restrict my car's performance.

 

Yes and no. That cat will flow much better but is smaller diameter at the same time. You will create a bottle neck there. You should be up for emissions this year, so what will you do then?

Cause I got this one, took it to a shop to have it installed but they said they couldn't do it because the O2 sensor for our cars are located in the middle and he didn't want to drill through the middle of the cat, or at the ends because it would break off from hitting the sub-frame.

If anyone else can chime in it'd be much appreciated cause I don't want to have wasted $100 on this cat.

 

Just checking the diagram on the box here, and the foam stuff is on the sides. Would that make it ok to drill through the middle for the O2 sensor?

 

i can't remember off hand and don't have the receipt anymore, but that looks like what i had. I had to throw in a defouler to get the O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream because it threw a check engine light and thought my cat was bad. Like i said i barely passed emissions with it, so if you're putting in this cat to replace one that's gone bad, what's the point if you might not pass emissions with the new magnaflow cat?

 

See the shop I went to flat out told me this cat won't work on the CL because he would not be able to install the O2 sensor on it. Out of curiosity, what's that little piece that sticks out the side of the cat?

As for emissions, I got hookups for that if you catch my drift.

You can see where the O2 goes right in the side. I dont know what that nipple is on the one you showed. I think you want the 54055.

Hey folks, if you are going to have your car in the air anytime soon, do you think you could check the dimensions of the stock flex pipe for moi? I need to get one but I just need to know the diameter of the pipe and the length of the flex pipe. (Got no where to jack my CL up )
