Cargo carrying capacity

Ok, so the owners manual says our car can take up to 700lbs (including passengers). I have some stepping stones I need to buy. I needs lots. I need a truck!! But I'm gonna have to make a few trips in the CL. I weigh 160 so I'm allowed over 500lbs in stepping stones but there's no way in hell I'm putting that much in the trunk. That can't be good to have all that weight back there.

But how much do you think I should carry? I was thinking of getting 12 stones at a time (@ 15 lbs/each) for a total of 180lbs in the trunk. That should be pretty safe, ya think? Could I go with 16 stones (240lbs)?? BTW, it's only about 2.5 miles to the Home Depot (my favorite store in the whole world!)

Also, would having Comptech springs affect how much I should carry?

Well, if you can get yourself all the way the hell out here, I'd be happy to trade cars with you for a few weeks...heh.

And while I CAN promise I wouldn't advance your membership in the scratched-rims club, I can't promise I wouldn't drag with my hubby...place your bets now, people!

I have fit two (160 lb) people in my trunk, plus a passenger up front so I imagine you would be o.k. with 240 --although I do not have aftermarket springs. Your springs lower the car, but are also stiffer. To be safe I would go with around 200 lbs.

I'm not by any means an engineer though.

You should be OK, but don't forget to check your tire pressure and make sure it is not low..

I fit 20 bags of shot @ 25lbs per in my Intergra (not lowered). Thats 500 lbs. I spread them mostly on the floor in the back seat area. In the hatch I had 2 x12 lb kegs of gunpowder along with a case of wads (8lbs?) plus two sleeves of primers (15lbs each?). Then there was my svelte 195lbs of me. That makes around 750lbs not including a couple packs of cigs. True the car "seemed" a bit slower but did the 50 mile trip just fine. Although I noticed that it was thirstier.

I've done the same in the CL (lowered) except minus 125lbs from the Integra's situation. The Teg seemed to swallow the stuff better seeing as I wasn't to crazy about shoving bags of shot on the leather. You should be fine but I'd think about those stones resting on the floor of the rear instead of all in the trunk.

Ha, YOU DON'T KNOW ME!

No, had to smuggle a few friends into a foot-ball game last year, in some what 'inappropriate' attire, all in good fun of course...

What exactly happens when you exceed the cargo weight of 700lbs? Any affects on the car?
