Carb cert and Base 3.2 SC
Carb cert and Base 3.2 SC
I find out from Comptech that the base 3.2 SC is a while away because of the ULEV standard of the emmissions. They say it makes Carb cert more difficult. My question is what does that Carb Cert really mean, how does it help us and last but not least what would happen if they didnt make oe and I put a Type S kit on instead?
I presume your talking about the CL (ULEV status) vs. the CL Type-S (LEV status).
The ULEV is a "tougher" and cleaner emissions standard and it makes it "harder" to add mods that meet the "tougher" standard (ULEV).

MORE STUFF....
CARB is the California Air Resources Board (Cal stuff).
To get a "waiver"/"exemption order", an after market parts maker need to have the mods certified. The process depends on the exact mod (there is a line that can be called and/or e-mail to contact). IN general, it costs $$$, and Comptech needs to have the tailpipe contents "checked" by a certified testing lab. to insure that the product meets a specific standard.

An exemption from Vehicle Code section 27156 (VC 27156), California's anti-tampering law, is required before any add-on or modified part can be sold in California. Manufacturers interested in obtaining a VC 27156 exemption for an add-on or a modified part should fill-out and submit an application form and other required information to the ARB for evaluation."

"Pertinent Requirement: California Vehicle Code (VC), Section 27156, requires that the California Air Resources Board (ARB) evaluate after-market add-on components, intended for sale in California, to determine if the effectiveness of the vehicle’s pollution control system could be reduced. The manufacturer receives an executive order permitting the sale of the technology, in California, if it is determined that the technology does not cause an increase in vehicular emissions. The evaluation required to receive an executive order can be coordinated with the additional testing required to participate in CalCert.
