can NOT unscrew shift knob.. need HELP

So my headunit died and i got an oem radio as a replacement. I've read through the DIY's and apparently I have to take apart the center consel and what not..

well.. today I was messing around with the shift knob trying to unscrew it but it wouldnt budge. i've unscrewed the shift knob in my gfs tsx with ease but this just wouldnt budge. I think the previous owner screwed it back on with some extra strength adhesive like superglue... if that's the case.. how would I go about unscrewing it?? anybody?

Try this first. Get a rubber glove or a glove with the rubber grips. Use all of your strength to turn it. I've heard of those things being on there pretty tight.

Is it a stock knob? If it's aftermarket it may have a set-screw holding it onto the shifter.

dunno about auto's, but for the manual you go counterclockwise (obviously). i have my 3g tl knob on very tight (that it takes 2-3 hands to undo) because i like it lower. so maybe you're not using enough force.

Try harder. It's on there pretty tight. Wrap a towel around it to get it started.

I dont think you have to get the shift knob off to take out the radio. All you need to do is to remove the plastic trim that runs up and down the center console. The screws are there. If the shifter gets in the way, stick your key into the shift pock and push it down to 1-2 with the parking brake on.

The autos are a little tougher to get off if it's never been removed before. Grab it with both hands and give it all you got. Just be careful not to bend the arm itself, make sure you are twisting.

I know it's a bit unorthodox, but you may want to try picking up a bag of ice and packing it around the shifter arm itself. If you put the ice in a few ziplock bags you can wrap the arm without getting everything wet. Cold causes metal to shrink slightly. I have a solid aluminum shift knob and it loosens up on the colder New England mornings.

Whether you actually need to take it off or not to do the radio install I'm not sure , I never had to replace the head unit in my car.

Exactly what I had to do to take mine off. It was a real bitch to unscrew.
