Can I sell back my extended warranty?

I bought the 100k mile extended warranty when I bought my used '02 CLS back in May. After finding out that the transmission is really the only weak spot in this car, and it is covered already to 100k miles...do I really need the extended warranty? It hasn't taken affect yet (I'm at 41k miles now) so can I get a refund or sell it back to the dealer?

no, you don't need it. yes, I think you can get a refund...not 100% sure though. I am pretty sure when I bought mine they said said you could get your $$ refunded anytime before the coverage starts...

It will be prorated and they will mail you a check for the difference.

Call Acura Care and ask them for a refund/cancellation quote. They'll ask you for your Contract # and your mileage, among other things. I received $614 in June or July for mine, with 70-something-k on the car. I bought it last August for $1,230, with 48k or 49k on the car.

As stated already, it's a prorated amount. I had to get paperwork through my dealer, which had to be filled out and then sent to Acura. To make a long stry short, the dealer lost my paperwork so I waited an insanely long time to get my check.

But once Acura receives the paperwork, it only takes 5-7 buisness days to get your money.

So they give me a check...and my monthly payment stays the same.

Hmm.. That's a good question.

Because if you're paying for the extended warranty every month when you send in your car payment, I'd think you'd stop paying that amount since you don't have the warranty any longer.

I'd just call them and see what they say.

There are different conditions if the extended warranty is part of your lease/financing contract. Call Acura Care to be sure of the details.

Is this something I can do from work, or should have all the paperwork infront of me when I call?

All you need is your VIN number. And even if you don't have that, I'm sure they can find you in their computer by last name.

Is it pretty much the general conclusion on this board that the extended warranty is a waste?? I don't want to get a refund and then end up needing it in 20k miles.

The extended warranty can bail you out of a lot of things. I would have kept if it I didn't sell my car.

Look at how much parts and labor cost for one major part. That to me alone makes the extended warranty worth it.

I think I just might keep it. I mean it covers everything...I've just noticed a few threads where people were asking what the point of the extended warranty was. If it was usless I was gonna say F it and get a refund.

The factory warranty certainly isn't "useless"...

I'd keep it. Again, one major things goes wrong and you'd wish you would have kept the sucker.

Good luck.

Like I’ve said MANY times in the past…… There are TONS more parts that can go wrong with our cars besides the Tranny in 100K miles.
Buying an extended warranty is like gambling.
Sometimes you drop a quarter in the slot and win 5-Grand and sometimes you spend thousands and get nothing more then a few “free” drinks.

My opinion:
These Acura’s aren’t built nearly as good as the Japanese models from a few years ago.
If you plan to keep the car for a while I think a 1K “investment” for the peace of mind is worth it.
I’m gonna buy the 7YR-100K warranty before the price goes up in March for my car.
no, you don't need it. yes, I think you can get a refund
We sure seem to have a lot of “experts” here that can foresee the future, but where do you think these guys are gonna be when something expensive dies at 60K.
I doubt they’ll even offer you a ride home from the dealership.

If your warranty was calculated in your loan and you cancel your warranty, your loan needs to be re-calculated.

Read through the warranty coverage sections...thoroughly. Read them again. Be sure you understand what is covered and what is not covered. Many items that are covered under the original factory warranty can be considered wear items under the extended warranty, which means they won't be covered. Unfortunately, for me, my dealer considers many things wear items.
