CAI Question

Is the install reversiable? Can I take it out when my lease is up(or if I don't like the extra noise) with no damage, or hint it was ever in.

yeah, you can put everything back the way it was. It'll take alittle effort but you can do it.

Short RAM or no?

Looking at the CAI's you guys have, I feel a bit left out! I saw the "short ram" and the regular, but what are the differences? At around $200 for a CAI, I like the price and idea of more power, but what's the difference between the two?

Mostly, the noise. You hear very little with long CAI. Short one has a hiss. Power distribution is different as well. I am not sure you would notice it that much. The ol' highly calibrated "butt dyno" says it is faster than stock. Sounds great regardless. ...C'mon...go for it!

The short ram doesn't really provide 'cold air'. The air going into the short ram is coming from the engine bay which is warm/hot air. The 'regular' cai (cold air intake) provides air coming in from the front bumper. Normally it is cooler than the air from the engine bay. The only thing you have to worry is deep water and frequent maintenance because it gets dirtier quicker.

Thanks for the tips on the differences.

In terms of additional maintenance, how much more? I know the AEM CAI comes with a K&N filter and that is easily cleanable, but how many miles? 10k? 15k?

With the short ram, there is no additional maintenance because its only shoving existing warm air into the engine versus getting cold air from the bumper, no?

I'm not too familiar with all the car stuff, but I am learning... If you guys have computer questions, I can definitely help out on that.

i think you clean it pretty much when it looks dirty, but i think around 15k (i haven't had one long enough to know).

the one in the cold air is getting air (and bugs and leaves and grass and dirt and stuff) from the outside, while the one in the engine bay is sucking in less garbage (bugs and leaves and grass and dirt and stuff).

Actually they are a lot more durable than you think. I believe the cleaning interval is like 50,000 miles or so. You buy the "kit" from K&N to clean and re-oil it.

The cleaning part is the most fun of the bunch! It is nasty when you tr to clean the filter after 50,000 miles!
