CAI or no CAI?
CAI or no CAI?
What do you guys think? I still have the stock box but am considering putting in a CAI. Worth it? Or should I just get a K&N filter for my stock box? I hear those are good too but a bit pricey for just a filter. I had a CAI in my last car but I did not feel a real difference there other than a bit louder sound. Will the CL-S make a difference with a good CAI? Fuel saving benefits?
it will flow better then your stock airbox and draw in cooler air. There probably will be fuel savings, but not sure how noticeable. Also, you just clean the filter instead of buying new filters every time. That'll save you some.
Also there are dyno #'s out there to show the hp improvements.

P.S. Sorry for hi-jacking the thread lol.
I have a CAI and i didn't feel any difference between it and the stock box. neither did i notice any more fuel efficiency ( i always check how much mpg i get from each full tank).
I got a little more sound in vtec from CAI
also, i don't have to buy anymore stock intake filters, just wash and oil the cai filter.
my cai is only for show. no major benefits

CAI are dyno proven at 8-15 hp depending
a K&N drop in along with removal of lower resonator is likely in the 8HP range

Thx for the info...my filter will be changed on my next oil change. So I figured I would get your opinion if its worth it on the CL to get a CAI. Sounds like I may be leaning towards getting OEM filter or checking out a K&N. I figure the K&N filter will last longer too so that will help ease the pain of the price...ha!

Im running a CAI now, I have the option of running a short ram with it as well. There is a noticeable difference in power between the two. The short ram is also louder but the throttle response is slightly better.
I do not have the ability to run a stock intake though. My first intake was the Icebox. I loved it. If you want to open up the intake but dont want to worry about puddles, get the Icebox.

when i bought my cl-s stock almost 3 yrs ago the first mod i got was injen cai. and it was perfect.. i could feel the power and the sound was killer. it's a must. and so are headers
I got an Injen CAI plus one of those hydroshields they sell. It's a pre-filter that blocks out water. Plus it cuts down on the frequency at which you need to clean the filter. I've had my CAI on for over 2 years. I live in Oregon where it rains 366 days a year and have had no hydrolock. I do try to stay away from the massive, deep puddles (from clogged storm drains and whatnot)
Bottom line: If you get any CAI, get some sort of protection from water. With the pre-filters (I'm pretty sure you could get one with an AEM intake too) the claim is that the only way they'll take in water and cause hydrolock is if the whole filter is submerged in water.

I used to have a drop-in K&N filter with intake resonator removal. Sold the filter after I got 50k miles out of it when it needed to be cleaned. I read some conflicting statements about how well the K&N filter does against small particles of dirt. So I picked up a paper filter but left the resonator off. Engine longevity is more important to me then half a dozen HP.
