my current approach is to ignore it since I am out of warranty.
I'll wait until it becomes a real problem before I spend $$$ to have someone look at it.
Yes, the noise is irritating, but yet its not clear if this is a serious problem. My A/C is blowing cold air, so I can't complain.
You don't want to go to the dealer, pay $90 for diagnostics to hear something like "can't reproduce" or "your A/C is operating normal".
fuk that....

My car has been whining since I recharged the A/C. Did you recently recharge it? Or any of the other people posting do this?
I came to realize that my A/C usually only whines when I have it on the coldest setting of close to it when it is really hot out.
It was however whining a lot more before I took some of the pressure out of the low pressure line.

My A/C sounded as any brand new car until I did the recharge myself! I noticed that when I first did it, the engine would sort of pulsate when the A/C kicked on (at idle or highway speeds) and seamed to lose power for a second, but when I lowered the pressure closer to the 25psi (I think I only dropped it back down to around 28-29psi) that was in it before recharging, that it stopped doing the pulsing. Unfortunatly, it still makes a humming/whining sound when it cycles though.

Nope - mine hasn't been touched since it came from the factory. Still under warranty so maybe I'll have it checked out next time I am in...
